Help with trunk release, don't know if it is the right section to post.

Hi, can anyone help me with my trunk release. I locked it and now it does not unlock. So now when i pull the lever for the trunk nothing happens, it will not move. The only way for me to open the trunk is to stick the key in from the back of the car. Does anyone know how to fix this problem? and will it be expensive?

I have a 2001 civic lx coupe

Thanks in advance,

Okita

i dunno but in my EK there's a trunk lock next to the lever, stick your key in there if you have it and turn the key and it should unlock it so you can use the lever

If I remember from when I had my 03, that generation of Civics had problems with the trunk locking mechanism and the cable to open it. The cars do have a trunk lock inside.

I have the exact problem with my 07 sedan. Took the car to the dealership on Saturday and they told me that they need to replace I don't know what mechanism. If you have the same problem as I do, you might need to do the same thing.

Luckily my car is brand new so they will fix this under warranty. They ordered the part and they will install it at a later date.

The 01-05 civics have a problem with the trunk release cable which will cause the trunk or gas cap to remain closed after the lever is pulled. If you're vehicle has under 60,000kms it should still be covered under warrenty. If not, you will either have to replace the entire cable or if you are lucky, the cable broke right by the lever and you can purchase a repair kit and fix the problem yourself for cheap.
