The 6 speed definately helps the yota's. Though, my buddy and i were using 2way radios and he told me his rpm in each gear and i could almost match him....my SiR is just missing the 6th gear!!! LOL.

When we went to st.thomas in the spring, i got into 4th gear on every run by the end of the track, the matrix XRS's were just tickling the rev limiter in 3rd.....some did shift into 4th but it was over the finish line and almost not worth it....

Kinda weird since mine is a 5 speed, theirs is a 6 and I was no more than a car length ahead most of the time... It would seem that the 2000 SiR's 5 speed tranny has shorter gears than the 6 speed matrix/celery's...

I love the new Si...It doesn't look like any other civic, It's got more power and is quicker than anyother civic in the past......the only thing is that weird gauge cluster, don't know if i could get used to it...

your body style... the 99-00 sirs are one of the nicest body styles for civics IMO.. .aside from hatches... hahaha.. i have one, have to love them!!!!

swap in a k seriers from the civic si... then you are good... no need for a new cluster

i rather boost the b16 then spend 10k on a k series swap

ahhh, you get more power... but refinement is key...

btw... i have a b18c1 and the turbo is going in hopefully in the next few weeks if all goes well with getting the parts for it and someone to help me install it!!! ... just to drop a little hint... 7psi roughly?

soo... i agree with you on that one (when it comes to boosting)... the sweet sound of a BOV and the subtle look of an intercooler hidden in the front... in my hatch..i can't even wait... and the power it should hopefully be making,.,

but i still would kill for a civic si k-series... 6speed tranny anyone?

6 speed is nice, no doubt. But power is power regardless coming from which engine and how much HP you can utilize on a daily basis.

NAH, i have an SIR too and VTEC Thunder i totally agree with you, and the end of the TRAP in the 1/4 u find yourself kicking into 4th gear which sucks ***, cause it seems like there is no power!! so much for short gearing.. the only thing is short 1st and second, 3rd is somewhat mediocre and 4th is just friggin long!

hahaha
I love my SIR, best car ive owned yet....
wouldnt trade it for thr world... unless i had a sweet offer... then ill just buy a Type R!

power curve is more important than top power...i dont care if you are making 400 hp, if you cant use that power unless it's at 9000rpm then i think it's pointless....i rather prefer a motor that'll gimme 300hp at 2000rpm=P

Remember our conversation... sell the SIR before it depreciates, even more that it already has, and come to the turbo darkside.

It's much nicer and quieter than vtec, oh did I mention faster too?

Actually, since I powershift like a mad man, shifting to 4th at the end was not a big deal, was better than some of the matrix's going "BRAAABABABABABA!!!" off the limiter in 3rd cause they can't shift nearly as fast cause their trannys and shift linkages suck-*** compaired to honda's trannys with huge steel rod linkages.

And about making 400hp at 9000 compared to 300hp at 2000, i'd rather have the screemer. The engine with 300hp at 2000rpm will fall very hard at about 5000rpm and will be much slower than the car with 400hp at 9k. The thing is, through gearing and torque multiplication, higher revving engines that make power up high will almost allways be faster. It's just fact, (i'm still looking for the website that explains it, and we are learning about this in school at the moment). Engines that maker their power down low generally do not rev and therefore can't really make use of good gearing and therefore are not as fast.

In everyday driving, however, it does make sense to have a nice wide powerband with some low end grunt.

Bryce's midori ek has some low end torque man... built b18c1 block with c5 head and ctr valvetrain... that thing pulls harder than any civic i've been in thats n/a at 2500rpm... hahaha... serious too... i thought my b18c1 pulled hard, but damn, this thing makes some nice low end toque and holds it and gains all the way up the revs...

Thats pretty much what you want: decent torque down low and high hp up high....

Sounds like a fun car!

Less stress at 8000rpm?? News to me, Torque is awesome, I got a 98 Accord V6, 200HP / 195ft/lbs, i'll admit its not the fastest car on the street, but the get up and go is nice!!! nice to be able to pass cars with the A/C on!!!

Passing with the a/c on....hehe...

I thought that was gonna be a problem when i bought my SiR, but in fact, when i have the a/c on, i haven't noticed any effect at all on power.....strange because i noticed a drop in power using the a/c in my cavalier V6....maybe because of the huge heavy GM a/c compressor...LOL

thats the difference between a Built GSR and a stock GSR... higher compression, better flow!! just overall it will kick any stock ***... especially when cars are built concervatively
