I totally agree with you. The problem is there are some kids on this forum who are 16 year olds, that proibably just swapped a B16 in their car and think vtec is MAD TITE Y0 (while burning out 1st up and down the street).

82000rpm is one thing... ever felt 9500rpm on a built motor? It sounds like your mad TYTE VTEC at 8200rpm, except the car is actually moving quickly...

(I'm currently hammered... and my sentences are still coherent. Damn gin and pooh naah knee. Such a wonderful mix.)

hahaha, look... his is getting out of control... it was a friendly post laughing at the ugly se-r... but, its cool nissan lovers... the only nissan i even liked was the quest... hahaha...

whatever, i am not some kid and not a honda loving idiot...well, honda loving, but smarter... and who cares if a 16yr old buys a b16 and swaps it in its car... whats funny, is you are just are just jealous cause it reminds you when were driving your parents buick at 16 with no passengers... its cool, at least you had a atari to curb the loneliness... ahhh, memories of being taken off every light by classmates... probably didn't do too well for your gf situation Torrey... hopefully things worked out for you in the end... (<<<---- happy faces this time so TORREY and Callmesir are satisfied with the level of sarcasm)

just so you know...

read the first post again... i never straight up bashed the se-r... i was laughing at a webste that i read something off of... i was laughing at how the guy on the site compared the two...

yeah... to whoever thought i was serious about the dual-vtec is such a dumbass... SERIOUSLY... you think i am sitting here typing wearig a helmet or something? I didn't just buy a civic yesterday!

I agree with this, man I have to spool up into the 6K + in order to get power and the car starts screaming like a F1 car! But that's why I like it.

But when I want to save gas (1.00+ a litre) I short shift and she turns into a sleeper.

But if I'm in VTEC and still under the speed limit, people (and the cops) all get agitated.

Like 2 engines in one. I'll take that anyday.

I HATE it when ppl say nissan and other companies have a type of VTEC when infact they don't. Intake flaps are hardly anything close to vtec. Unless it has two different cam lobe profiles to which it switches to at higher rpms, it's not vtec.

Just had to get that off my chest...lol

The se-r is nothing special, it's heavy, has a huge displacement engine which get nowhere near 100hp/L, and it's ***-end is ugly.

I can teach you guys a thing or two about toyota's "vtec" system....

First of all, I believe you meant to say VVTL-i, not VVT-i. There is a huge difference. The 1zz-fe engine wich is the VVT-i engine is in the base and GT model celicas as well as the corollas and base and XR model Matrix's, simply a 1.8L DOHC engine with variable valve timing, no lift like vtec. It produces about 126hp.

The engine you meant to say was the 2zz-ge, VVTL-i engine. Used in the celica GT-S and matrix/ corolla XRS models. It is a 1.8L DOHC engine with variable valve timing as well as lift (VTEC). It produces about 180hp.

The 2zz-ge engine uses a shim, which with oil pressure like the pin in hondas VTEC, slides the shim into the cam follower to switch over to the high performance cam lobe, just like vtec.

Now the 2zz's version of VTEC, or "lift", hits at a much higher rpm, from 6200rpm to 6700rpm, depending on which model and year of vehicle you buy. Also it is more agressive than hondas version. The step in hp when lift hits in the 2zz is much more noticable then that in honda motors.

Toyota has had this motor since the last gen celicas came out in 1999. This puts toyota one step ahead in 4 cylinder technology because they had variable valve timing AND lift, when at the time honda only had "lift" without variable valve timing. The honda came out with the latest i-VTEC, which is essentially very similar to toyota's variable valve timing and lift...

So as of today, toyota and honda are neck and neck with 4 cylinder technology....

My friend has a 2004 toyota matrix XRS with the 2zz-ge engine in it. He dyno'd at 170whp and 126ft-lbs. That was with only cold air intake. When we did a track day at st.thomas this past spring, my Sir was unbeaten by any ofthe XRS's in the group that came. The matrix is heavier than my civic and is more difficult to shift quicky, but given the power difference (170whp to maybe 140whp), this came as a surprise to every one.

Now i'm not saying than VTEC is the be-all and end-all of engines, because it isn't. When his matrix XRS and my SiR go head to head on an open highway, his 2zz will pull on my b16 every time, UNLESS i am drafting him, then we are glued together.

Just thought i'd inform you guys and give you some interesting info....

^^^ yeah I agree. I have driven my buddies matrix and it felt alot like my b16. Nothing....and then HOLY CRAP!!! lol...

It is a respectable engine....engineered very well...my friend had a lift controller on it at one point and he lowered the "lift" engagement to 5500....let me tell ya....it was pretty freakin quick!

kungfugrip: Don't bash other ppls cars like than man...especially the 2zzge. No matter what ppl drive, i don't tell them their car sucks.....not cool...

Sorry man....missunderstanding.... ...LOL...

I missunderstood what you were sayin....

Yeah I've heard of alot off ppl trading in their celery's (celicas) for RSX's cause the RSX is just way above the celica.

The 2zz-ge is a good engine though......but nothing compaired to the K20...

I rather enjoy threads like these, get into some heated debates etc....it's interesting to hear everyone's point of view

my buddy has a 04 RSX, and the VTEC system feels way different from the original VTEC... it doesnt feel like VTEC... but on the Type S... u can hear that sucker scream!

as for the Celica - even though there VTEC system hits late, its fly's once its going, i wont disrespect those cars b/c Toyota makes awesome cars... short gearing will help as well, and its pretty much quicker then a GSR!

and im not talkin about GSR swapped Hatches either...
