i had a 87 S10 pickup with a 410hp 350 small block (bored/honed like mad) back when i lived in hamilton.
when they found it a week later, it was on the brantford native reserve. they stole just the subs, and lit the rest on fire.
you got your car back....very very very lucky
i had momo racing seats in it, slap shifter, ARE fiberglass cap, the frame was c notched ready for bags, shaved body, and that engine had less than 5000km on it, and all they took was the stereo (the box was a cut thru from the pickup into the cab).
like, steal the stereo and leave me the rest - i would have sold it anyway even if it was recovered....my EG back in the day was broken into MANY MANY times in hamilton (i hate hamilton, scum ******* city of canada). but they never did steal it. just stole some change from it, and some other crap.

honestly.. i ****ing hate hamilton.. when i used to have my 94 golf turbo diesel someone broke into my car to steal 2 cd's.... 2... not even real cd's burnt cd's
that city is hell on earth.. i tell my girlfriend (she goes to mac) to carry i knife with her if she's walking around late at night

Wow the same thing happened to my friend's '95 Sonoma. His wasn't as done up as yours though.
