Giving out address

So I listed some rims on CL and Kijiji, some guy offered to buy them and said he was really interested. And then he said he wants to send me a cheque through the mail and he would get some one to pick up the rims.. so he would need my full name n address. So i gave it to him. .. and now im a bit :S .. .cause im beginin to think maybe its some scam and i just got played????? whattt should i do now?

JDMinprogress 11-Apr-2008 01:59 PM

buy a 12-gauge shotty and wait for that fcuker haha
did you not get any info outta him?
a number, a name, anything?

Fr0z3N 11-Apr-2008 02:00 PM

Keep your car in your garage or make sure you have a big guard dog and/or wheel locks, I ensure all 3 at the same time. Then again, I always tell people I'll meet them somewhere.

k_r_a_c_k_e_r 11-Apr-2008 02:03 PM

make sure the cheque clears before you let the rims go..

and keep a bat by the front door.

lilmoh16 11-Apr-2008 02:05 PM

naaa i didn't get any info out of him.. i feel mad stupid cause i thought about it after!! dang!

JDMinprogress 11-Apr-2008 02:08 PM

are the rims on your daily driver?
if they are, do they have wheel locks on them?

Roll_outz 11-Apr-2008 02:09 PM

DUDE THOSE people did that to me BUT SINCE I ASK THEM CASH ONLY THEY NEVER REPLY TO E MAIL.. ALSWAYS ASK ANY BUYER TO PAY YOU CASH...

lilmoh16 11-Apr-2008 02:11 PM

damn did you give out your info tho? and naa ther not on my car they are in ma house

Polkaroo Killa 11-Apr-2008 02:25 PM

- you gave him your address
- you have no info on him
- he wants to pay by cheque and get someone else to pick them up

Smells like a scam to me.

agreed, wait for the cheque 2 clear before anything.

and just if you feel like living dangerously, buy a 12 gauge shotty to light his @ss on fire:target: loll joking obviously.

lilmoh16 11-Apr-2008 02:37 PM

lol.. 12 gauge seems like the best solution as of now haha.. jk. but um thanks for everyones input.. what do you think he could do with my info tho? apply for a credit card??? that would def. suck....

starboy869 11-Apr-2008 02:45 PM

People still fall for this scam.

xray 14-Apr-2008 09:16 AM

It might not be a scam. He obviously needed your name and addy so he can send the cheque to your front door. He might live somewhere far so a friend is gonna pick it up. He already knows what the condition of the wheels from the pics you posted, so he doesn't have to see them personally. But do wait for the cheque to clear before releasing them to his friend.

Dexst 14-Apr-2008 09:22 AM

i dunno man, be always werry about people who want to buy something that they havent even seen

lilmoh16 14-Apr-2008 09:53 AM

lol yepp i just verfied its a scam for sure.. the guys like yeah im gonna send u more money than the actuaal cost.. to cover "any extra shipping or hastle fees" but just send the difference back by money order!! haha so I was able to change up my address by saying.. "oo my bad i gave you my old address by mistake"..and i was like "make the chque out to my dads name".. (gave him a fake name) haha .. so i should be in the clear now!! *pheww*.. never again....

Cynikal.Mindset 14-Apr-2008 10:00 AM

its not like a dude from Nigeria or eastern Europe is gonna show up at your house

Dexst 14-Apr-2008 10:14 AM

lol look for the thread about andrew trying to sell his car and the scam guy from nigera

xray 14-Apr-2008 10:39 AM

You would think if all they want was the money, they would look for a more expensive item to scam instead of a set of rims. They just want that money (the difference) you're sending them back. They don't give a sh!t about the item at all.

lilmoh16 14-Apr-2008 10:49 AM

^^ yepp i figured it out after. I also read the thread bout some Andrew dude who went thru the same thing, but he took it waay far lol

xray 14-Apr-2008 11:05 AM

I can see it with a car selling for 10gs. So they send 12gs. Car being more expensive to ship. So they scamed 2 gs. But with the set of rims we'll say you're selling for 1g. They're not gonna send you 3gs for it. Doesn't make sense. They're not out to make $500 scams. They want thousands.

yea man think like the criminals^^^ but its true everything he says, try and get hin to certify the cheque to make sure it goes through, costs a lil more but its cheaper than loosing 1000 dollar rims

xray 15-Apr-2008 01:14 AM

That looks like a nice Si you have there (in your avatar). Where do you live again? Address? Lol.

usdm 15-Apr-2008 01:34 AM

Its a scam, any time they say they will pay extra to cover the cost & "but just send the difference back by money order" < this has been the same crap many people have gotten from kijiji.

civicEJ1 15-Apr-2008 06:58 AM

WoW. One of things you do when you buy a car is make sure the VIN from the ownership matches the one on the firewall.
