Get this... car trade-in related

So tomorrow, my wife and I were supposed to trade in our 06 Civic Si for a Mini Cooper. Our sales girl calls us and proceeds to tell us that the CarProof (the Canadian CarFax) came back saying that the Si was branded and involved in an accident in October 2006 and had $10000 damage done to it. she is telling me they can't do the deal until it gets straighten out and that they and I could be sued by a potential buyer of the si becuase we never told them about this accident that never happened.

It gets better. I called this CarProof place. They conformed the same info that the sales girl told me and they proceeded to tell me that there may have been a mistake (no frigg'n kidding) and they wil need to conduct an ivestigation, but the Investigator is off until Tuesday.

To add, I did get into an accident on the same day they mentioned in the report, but I was driving a rental car because my other car was in the shop. The rental car was written off for the exact same amount that the CarProof form showed.

So I call my insurance company and talk to my claims adjuster from this accident that happended on Oct 06. She tells me that this CarProof place is a joke and that she gets call from clients all the time with the same problem I am having. Some how, the VIN from the Si got entered somewhere by someone instead of the VIN for the rental. She tells me that she sees no claims or references at all for the Si anywhere.

She is currently trying to fix the problem while my wife is absolutley fuming.

I was getting excited too.

in order for the car fax place to get info they relay on insurance claims ect. sounds like your insurance company made the typo by switching vin (by accident of course) and then released this info to outside viewers. then they prolly noticed the mistake and updated their system but failed to inform any outside companies that may have picked up the reports from them in the first place. classic case of blame the other person.

it all starts with insurance companies my friend. think about it.

I thought that too because all the info would originate from the Insurance company in the first place. On all the paperwork I have from my accident, it doesn't have the Si VIN anywhere on it. Somebody just better figure it out first. Budds is making this CarProof form seem like its gold.

Trade-in deducts value off of the new vehicle before taxes, so you "could" be saving more once taxes are calculated. Plus, it is less hassle (most times) as oppose to waiting for potential buyer(s), go through the test drive and whatnot.

Cooper is a fun little car, gets the job done. I still enjoy my mother's MCC once a while in the summer time.

I love my rusty 93 si and if I had a wife who wanted a mini I think I'd tell her to save her pennies and buy her own car if she wants one so bad.
just my opinion. If the Si is really hers then maybe you need to buy it off her rather then just giving up your car to please her.

The 06 Si is her's. I have one myself, an 07. The Cooper S isn't as fast as the Si anyway, but handles better and has WAY nicer features and options, which is what she wanted. They are actually giving us agreat trade-in for it. Almost as much as it would sell privately for.

/\/\ LOL She told me I'm not even allowed to drive it.

I just talked to my insurance company and they admitted that they made the mistake. I still don't know if Budds is going to give us the Mini yet though.

Mike, just curious what options does the mini have that the civ doesn't? Other than less room LOL
