Ford Focus????

A buddy of mine is buying a new car and his Focus is for sale. It is a 2000 ZX3 Hatchback, 5 spd, 250,000k's and he is the origianl owner. He only wants $1000 for it and I was thinking it might make a good winter beater. Most in the AutoTrader are $3000+.

I don't know anything about the Focus so....

Thoughts, comments, opionions.

That's a good price for a beater. It's only 8 years old.

My buddy if far fom the most mecahnicaly inclined person, so I might just cough up the money and have hims take it somewhere to get checked out.

From what I have been reading about the Focus so far, it seems like a pretty reliable car. It comes from the Euro branch of Ford, so its probably much better then a USDM version.

just buy it man, don't even think about it. it's a great deal and it'll prolly last you for many seasons. they're not bad cars, and you're a handy guy so you'll prolly be able to run it for pretty cheap. if you don't want it, i'd consider it.

No, second. I didnt buy the Yaris. The insurance on the thing would have been almost as much as my Si. Im putting alot of k's on the Si, so Ive been looking for something cheap to drive to work.

Yeah, I know. Ive seen a few very beat up and rusty Civics for $1000.

Why do you need a winter car if you have a FWD?
A grand is a killer price though, I paid 2 for a 93 Civic sedan, after looking for a good month. Check out the car carefully though, I looked at a bunch of newer cars that were total death traps.
