pretty much you have a bottle like nitrous filled with some gas and it gets sprayed out ur exhaust and then a glow plug ignites the gas and flames shoot out. PM buddah as i think he has a link on the kits.

if it was an older model car it probably wasn't a kit, he probably just didn't have a cat converter on and without the cat there are much more fumes to burn, just hook up a spark plug wired to your battery and stomp on the gas and there you go...flames.

whoa if this thing was a heavy modded older style V8 i dont think u need that........ maybe he's running rich.....

sometimes u dont need a flame thrower kit... ol skool V8's all hopped up will most likely do that.

You sure it wasn't me??? lol. Don't get me wrong, it's kinda cheezey but, it's fun. And as JSK has said it, it's wonderful for those annoying tail gaters...you can melt their front bumpers right off...LOL. I got mine as a Christmas present from a friend in Cali. He thought I might have fun with it and I do. Depending on the type of gas you use to ignite, you can change the color of the flame. Mine's yellow center with green outer edges. The yellow center are the unburned gases from your engine combined with the gas provided by the kit, can change the outer edge flame color. It's really fun. And yes, you can't drive with it on. Although, that time on the 407 is definitely a story to tell the kids someday but, no, you can't normally drive on the street with it on. Hope that helps a bit.

Cheers,
Buddah.

I like the spark-plug idea.

I might put one on my exhaust tip and wire it to a switch and the battery.

But then I want it to be throttle activated. Like my nitrous kit did.... I want it to ignite at WOT.... Do I need a relay?

Sure! As long as I'm concerned, Turbo cars that are running a bit rich, and have a hot exhaust shoot flames at WOT and Shifts.
It basically occures as the rich exhaust mixture is ignited by the high tempreture of the exhaust system, when exiting the muffler. Its the unburned fuel that is running through that gets ignited.

yeah i know all this, but mine is a non turbo with 3 empty cats and a broken o2. i don't know how much you know about the rotary but they run really hot to begin with.

Still shouldn't be shooting flames unless you're reaming on the gas and you got your timing off in which case you are doing more damage than you realize. And yes I know rotary runs hot. Mine runs "super" hot but, even as it is modded now, it does not shoot flames as you describe. Only at full throttle does it shoot and even so, it's not like a super large flame...just a flame once in a while.

Cheers,
Buddah.
