nice stories so far, here's some of mine:

When I was 18 I finally got my G1, I'd practice in my mom's 98 Grand Am by driving to school with her. On a rather snowy and slushy day, I was approaching an intersection where I turn left... the light went yellow as I came up to it, so I decided to rush it and take the turn. The back end stepped out half way through the corner and my mom started to freak. Being a novice, I counter-steered and applied MORE gas to try and get it on track but there was just no grip to be had. Did a 180 and the car ended up resting on the yellow line... mom is still flipping out, I calmly tossed it into reverse, righted the car, and peeled off in embarassment :P I've taken extreme care in cornering in snow ever since.

The day I bought and took delivery of my first (and current) car 3 years ago, I hopped in and started driving home. Not knowing ANYTHING about Civics, and still in the glow of having my own car, I did not bother to check the gauges.... I started my journey in Pickering, got on the 401 and by the time I got into Toronto (around Yonge St) I looked down and noticed the temp gauge was well past the H and my CEL was lit up along with my oil pressure light.... I had broken the head gasket and the magic white smoke was billowing out the exhaust, other drivers were honking at me and I already knew it was toast... I pulled off at Keele & 401 where the car sputtered to an undignified smokey stop on the curb. I called my Dad to come help and he brought a gallon of water to see if we could cool off the rad and stuff, but the engine was already toast. In the process of waiting for everything to cool off, someone going down the Keele on ramp actually clipped the curb and rolled their car, it was surreal, we didn't even hear it over the sound of trying to start my car. I just popped my head out from under the hood and said "Hey dad, is that car on it's roof?", next second there's ambulances surrounding the place and all I could think was "****, I'll never get a tow now" :P

So yeah, in short, first thing I did when I bought my own car was blow a headgasket and warp the crap out of the D16 the moment I got behind the wheel. Awesome.
