ep CIVIC Type R

not true, they're actually cutting the EP hatch very soon in Canada at least, so that means no CTR.
It wouldn't make sense to oay that much for a CTR when you can get a RSX Type S for amost the same price.
I'd do it .. but to the average consumer it doens't seem viable.
Thats why the EL is going soon too because its getting up there in price and its still just a civic.

Sketch,
I am not sure where you are getting your information from but I don't think Honda Canada will (or will be allowed to) cut the EP hatch. Well, not at least until this generation of Civics finish.
The EL will not be gone either. Actually I heard rumours the U.S. might be adding it to their line up.
CTR, I doubt it. The last time I asked, someone asked me if I would buy a $35,000 Civic? That's a good question. For that money there are a lot of other options. (RSX Type S, TSX, 2 Civic DX, Accord Coupe V-6 6-MT.....). Why so expensive? They are all made in the U.K. Labour there is more expensive than Japan and a lot of the parts are bought locally (i.e. in Europe where things are more expensive).

It wouldn't be the first time such a reliable source of info such as Motor Trend Magazine has been wrong about these sort of things.
Wouldn't be suprised to see the RSX type R in the future, but as for the Civic, Canada has wow'ed us with the ugly as sin GFX edition to try to boost sales of the Civic SIR for 03'. The US will get the same crap in the Fall...no CTR and there probably never will be.
But for the extra $$$ that it would cost....(guessing in the $32-$35,000 range or more) you could swap for the K20-A2, or Turbo (which would blow a type R away), rims, suspension etc...etc.. and still have some cash left over for a very nice smelling air freshener.
I paid $21500 for my 02 SIR brand new...the things I could do to it with an extra $10-12,000...

The EL isn't that expensive.
$25,000 for a luxury car (entry level, yes) but I'd take it! I see tons of them around here.
I also doubt the CTR will ever see Canadian shores. IF it did Honda would have to cut prices on a whole bunch of cars. Example the Si coupe would have to be dropped atleast $2,000 (about 18-19k), the SiR hatchback would have to be dropped to about $22,000 tops and the CTR would have to sell at $26,000 max.
Otherwise it just won't sell.
I don't think Honda Canada would do that since the Civic sells so well here. In a way they'd be shooting themself in the foot(cutting their own profits)
RSX-R. Mmm... Just a matter of time...
