hey guys! i've done some research..and ppl say that if you run lowering springs on stock shocks...your stock shocks will end up leaking and will end up driving like a boat! but does that depend on hwo much you lower it? and how much more your shocks are compressed compared to stock specifications? let me knwo! thanks!

a lot of people run a sport spring with a mild drop 1-1.5" or so on stock shocks and say they run just fine. sport springs don't have a very aggressive spring rate so your stock shocks usually function fairly well with them, but anything more aggressive you will just have a bouncy ride...

but does the life of the shocks shorten a great deal if i drop that much? how much is too much fo rhte schoks to die faster?

this is a question where you will find two equally strong and divided group of believers....when i did my research...litreally half of the opinions were in favor and vice versa.
i ended up going with aftermarket shocks on sport springs...no complains so far after six months of driving.
the question that how quickly the stock shocks blow depends upon the type of driving, the roads and the drop itself.

my car is lowered 2.25" on stock shocks, the ride was fine for the first year, but now I know my shocks are leaking. The ride isnt terrible, but its definately not as good as stock. I still love the way my car looks lowered, so im very glad that I lowered my car, even though the ride could be better ...

I'm dropped 2+ inches....on stock shocks....ride is pretty good...until I get 2 or more passengers...and the the car rides lower on the stiffer part of the springs...then the ride can be a bit bouncy.
I'd recomend going with better than stock shocks....eventually the stockers blow with aftermarket springs.
The reason stock shocks blow on after market springs is not because of how much drop you have, it's the spring rate. Stock shocks can't handle the stiffer spring rate of some aftermarket springs.
Hope that helps.

Eibach springs are pretty soft I'm told, so they won't affect shock life too much.
Your shocks have nothing to do with ride height. Thats what your springs dictate.
Your shocks dampen the ride and regulate how quickly your suspension bounds and rebounds (compresses and decompresses). Without them you'd be bouncing endlessly down the road from every little bump....lol.
Your ride height will not affect the life of the shocks, the spring rate will.
Shouldn't this thread be in the performance/suspension section?

On my old 98 Si, I had H&R Sports and OEM shocks for about a year and a half with no noticable loss of ride/handling quality. I replaced the OEM shocks for Koni Reds and I was very happy with them.
On my 03 LX, I had the same set-up and the front struts only lasted 1 year before they started to leak.
I would recommend buying springs and shocks together simply to save the hassle later on. Even a decent set of used high performance shocks willbe a decent upgrade. I've seen Koni Yellows in the classifieds and I believe I also saw a Koni "kit" for sale.

my 88 crx si had bomz coilover sleeves on stock struts for a couple months before it got totaled. ran fine, stiff ride though. and that was on a 4" drop too...
