Does anyone get their Maintenance done at Honda?

SHould I be going there for there Type B C D E maintenance, or could I get it done elsewhere for cheaper.

This is what they told me:

Type D maintenance service. It’s a full servicing of your Honda including an oil and filter change, servicing of your brakes, checking tires and tire rotation, checking over your suspension components, fluid levels and overall multi-point inspection and it costs $383.88 plus tax

Does that seem expensive to anyone????

Umm.. $383 ? I'd defenitly take it elsewhere.
Just do an oil change and check the fluids and service the brakes (if required). Shouldnt cost more than $160.

Which area of the city do you frequent ? Id recomend Joe at Altech.

Altech

Actually I live in Mississauga, and I have been going to Erin Mills Honda near my house since I bought the civic. But sometimes they can get expensive and it pisses me off. When I look at what they are doing it sounds like really nothing. How do I know they are really inspecting everything. How do I know they are actually going to rotate the tires.

They also said it may take 3.5 hours just incase they may need to replace anything, to me it sounds like they want to run up the costs?? And thats 383 + taxes. Plus anything they may need to replace....its an 03 Civic in great condition.

Exactly. Just take it into a small service shop and have them inspect fluids, rotate tires , check pressures, and do an oil change.
The shop shouldnt even charge for tire rotation. Its so easy and takes 5 minutes.
There's really not much to do on these civics other than regular oil changes and fluid flushes etc etc. The bigger service on those civics is timing belt and water pump every 160,000 kms or 84 months.

Just did an oil change in the Subi on the weekend. $46.xx for Castrol 5w30 at The Pit Stop (Bramalea & Steeles). They let you stand there and watch them, ask questions like how it look underneath. Along with regular inspection of the lights, fluid, etc.

I'm definitely going back. Done with Mr. Lube.

thats a ripped off. Checking fluids you can do it yourself. Tire rotation you dont really need it and any shop should be able to do it. Oil change is like 40 $ and if you want synthetic 70$.

I just change my rotors and pads and that cost me like 300 bucks. So it should not even be half that to checkk how your brakes are

Never take your car to the dealership . They overcharge you. You can get all that done for 120$ tops. And that is putting synthetic oil in your car.

When I turn on my car, there is an indicator that says "Mainenance required" that flashes because it somehow knows, if I take it somewhere else will it be able to stop or is that something only honda can do

Honda made their cars with that indicator so that you can only take it to the dealer to maintain. There's a special way to reset it with your key.

WikiAnswers - How do you reset the maintenance required light on Honda civic

1. Put key in
2. Hold down the trip button
3. Turn key to ON position till lights on dash light up, dont turn on engine though.
4. Continue to hold the trip button until maintenance light disappears. This should take 15 to 20 seconds.

I hate it when Honda tries to sell me stuff i dont need. I told them i only want an oil change, and they start goin on n on about how there are over 20 sensors in my car, blah blah blah. and how the car NEEDS all these checks n stuff (This was an oddyssy that was under a yr old at the time btw). So i go "im in mechanical engineering" he looks at me.. and goes "oh... oil change only it is then" lol

All these things you listed you can learn to do yourself if you're somewhat mechanically inclined.

Doing work on your own car will save you huge amounts of money and you know the job is done right because you did it yourself, vs taking the mechanics word for it.

Alot of you people have no idea what youre even talking about...
You dont need tire rotations? Who said anything about checking brakes, they do a full service. And how the hell do they overcharge you? They charge the same shop labour as most other shops. Not to mention, these guys work on hondas every single day, have access to every single honda tools and manuals, use oem parts and not only that, its a very big shop that will make sure you stay happy and nothing bad happens to your car.

If you arent feeling like your car needs that entire service, why not get an oil change and brake service, ask them to rotate the wheels while they have the wheels off anyways (this will be no added charge). This will bring the price down to about 140 dollars.

Dealerships are not thieves like everybody thinks, learn the facts people!

No, they actually made it to make it easier for people when they call in to schedule an appt, the customer can just tell them what service it is, ie. A1, B1 etc. They also designed it so it could bring the harder driving people in a bit earlier.
They didnt do it just so you would come back, it actually states how to reset it in the owners manual.

You can take your vehicle to any shop you want for it's maintenance, as long as you have the bills to prove you had them done, you are still covered under your warranty.

Third to B-line.. they're good. They charge a lot too though.

I take mine to a local shop "Hightech" on wolfdale 905-896-8285. They do type B or C for $120 and Type D for $250.. wait a minute, am I getting ripped off too? lol... actually I skipped doing all that maintenance crap for the past year, all they really do is service the brakes, which I can just do myself... and I just manually turn off that maitenance light reminder.
