CRX's any regrets?

Anyone bought one and have any regrets with them? Im split now 50/50, keep my 94 sedan, or get an 89 Si. Both of them have about the same milage on it.

If your tight on cash, and dont want to spend a whole lot for insurance, compare the rate with your sedan, and go for which ever is cheaper.

If money is not an object, then its all about personal preference
take into consideration, that the CRX was not in your hands, and that the sedan was in your care.......so engine mileage has little effect here, cause we all know honda engines' can do more than 500K if babied

I had my stock motor blow up on me around 68K km's....5 months after i bought it!

Oh, that guy who bought the JL's from ya, he was looking for a CRX for about a month and a half.

All the one's he saw had very bad rust on the under frame, make sure you take it to a mechanic to check under the car, and that the frame is not about to break off!

PS: ooh... the subs got stolen 3-4 months ago!
theives broke in and stole the subs, amp and deck  those subs sounded sweeet!

CRX
Love the CRX's, I would take it over a 5th gen anyday but that's just my opinion. Always loved the car my brother has one and it's beautiful but has quite some cash into it, if he never had one i would have became a CRX owner instead of a 4th gen civic owner. got the closest i possibly can to the CRX, didn't I.

I guess I should contribute to this thread seeing as I do own a CRX.

1st do I have any regrets, yes? About $5000 worth.
Now while I did do a bit of research before I bought my car, I obviously didn't do enough.
Heres why I have regrets:
At the time I was undecided b/w an EK hatch or a CRX as my top choices. The Sol and EG Hatch (5th gen I think) were my 2nd choices.
The CRX (which I now own) was the 1st CRX I had ever seen upclose. Although I was only going to go look at it I instantly fell in love with the car and love how "peppy" it felt.
Ya know how on prom night every girl looks good? Even the ugly girl that sits in the back? Thats how I think of my CRX in retrospect.
I was in such "awe" about having my own car and I liked how the CRX was a 2seater and all, I didn't really pay much attention to the body, which cost $2500... ($1000 more than my original estimate, but I still saved a lot)
Don't even get me started on the rims...
But at 1st(the 1st few weeks after buying it) I was in such a state of bliss since I had my CRX and it was my baby(still is).
After having it for about 6months and just before I was going to put it in storage, the headgasket started to act up, but I thought it'd be fine since the body work was supposed to not be expensive (originally only $1500)
Well spring came along and I got the CRX fixed(body). It was good to finally be able to say and show that I had a rust free CRX. Also it was nice to not have the water go into my hatch after being in the rain...
Anyways the spring and summer came, so did the N8 meet (lotsa fun!) and my head gasket problem started to get worst. It was burning oil and coolant more than ever before, but I had faith in the little d16 to last me until Nov.
Well I was finally able to add some rims to the CRX in early Sept. and then not even a week after that I got hit by Jeep (I posted pics and bitched about it). That incident made me want to look for another DD, which when I was looking for one (EK Hatch) the head gasket finally died on me and its been dead getting towed around since.
So now $5000 later I have a rust free CRX, with nice rims (IMO) that doesn't move. (Add $2500 to engine swap)

My advice to you is to take a magnet if you're looking for a CRX and if you can run a compression test.
I'd hate to see someone go through all the crap I've had to go through and be taken advantage of.

As for insurance it costs less than any yr EK hatch (I have a perfect record) so don't think it'd be expensive. Of coarse I can only speak about my own experiences.

Basically I kinda regret having this specific CRX, but would I give up my CRX, nope. I'm in too deep and I love this car. Besides I"m almost done having it the way I want it done.
If ya need anything else just ask! Whew, that was a long post! I hope I answered your question!

wow that's nothing do you want to here what i have been threw with my car. here's something to read especially silvercrx
We'll i bought it for $2000 as is b/c it was a great deal and it had mods already done to it so i towed it to my shop and to find out that it costs $1700 to fix and put it on the road, it had 2 pages of crap it needed so i did it and put it on the road. Then a week later i my car used to not start or sometimes it would buthten it would die on me. Can't rememeber the part i needed but costed me $300 to fix. Then the next day some ******* breaks in it and steals ****, costs me more money to fix. Then a month later going 20 km/h down my street the connecting rod decides to rip out of the block and cracks the block on both sides, maybe it doesen't like me or something i don't know, costed me over $1000 for a motor swap plus timing belt/water pump, etc $400 later. Okay now im fine but i decide to lower my car and find out that my 2 lowers rear control arms are seized b/c the car is so damn old, $250 at Honda to fix. My door is about to fall off b/c my hinges are fucked, $100 to fix. Okay now she's doing okay a couple months later im at my g/f house to hear my alarm off. Oh **** what happened now, i go outside to see my entire front end crushed up b/c my g/f's sister decides to hit it. She payed me some cash for it but i was out of a car for over a month $1300 to repaint the entire car Blue instead of stock white.
Okay now im okay except for the fact that my rear quarter panels have rusted again after getting fixed ($400) to fix, my passenger side door hinge is gone now($100) My drive shafts are gone($250) Just got hit by a transport truck on the highway ($120) b/c he took off, my dad decided to bang his truck door on my fender, so a big dent on my freshley painted fender($ don't know). That's over $700 and i don't even have half of that, am i fixing it? nope b/c i have no money and insurance is $2500 a year.
I must have missed some stuff but i'll reply if it comes back to me.
But i still love my car to death and i'll never sell it ever, no matter what, i already got a few high offers for it but it's not for sale and never will be.

I have a few simple words for you
BUY A NEW CAR!!!

Thanks guys. Im in this situation now. My dad sat down with me tonight and gave me the pros and cons of buying the crx.

1989 Crx
Cost: $5000 + $400 tax + $200 to cert + any parts etc
=$5600 - 6000

Cons: $4500 of body work
-unknown history
-reapirs could cover up things such as Frame Rust
-Im on my own if car breaks down
-Im paying more for a car which is 5 years older

Pros: I love crx

1994 Civic (currently have now)
Cost: $4000 I owe them for it
Cons: I dont like the look as much

Pros: Bodyin good shape
-Parents will back me if car fails or breaks down
-New brakes all around

Im stuck in a rut, because I think im acting on pure emotion here for this crx.

Keep the EG man... I am kinda biased though...You can make that car look awesome and it's so much more practical. If you get sick of the D15 and the Auto transmission you can swap it out later. I'm not bashing CRX's here, I love them too, but it is going to be hard to find a good one at a decent price anymore seeing that they're all at least 12 years old. I'd hate to see you get a lemon after all that you've done to take care of your car.

With that money you have set aside you could drop in a VTEC D16 manual and still have $ left over for some springs and other appearance mods.

This is just my $.02

My Blue Si : suddenly I dont feel so bad. Not saying that your misfortune is a good thing though.

I paid $3500 for mine with e-test and safety. Didn't want the problems of doing the e-test like I just did now. (before it died)

loudsubz : just wondering why you want the '89 model? Its a great year since thats the one I have myself. If you want to reduce the chances of rust I'd recommend that you look into a '90+ CRX since they were made with better metal. (I found that out the hard way) and they come with the clear bumpers too.
If you're looking into a CRX, seriously take your time and wait until you find the "right" car. You wont regret it. Don't be impatient like me.

One guy I know from the CRXboards and from N8 bought a '91 Si and the thing was mint. 0 rust, the thing looked like it was just bought. Perfect condition, I almost couldn't believe it.

And having 2 seats isn't all that bad, no more being a taxi, personally I love it!

Anyways just be patient and like I said before take a magnet.

P.S. why the hell you paying 5K for an '89 CRX?

I guess I was willing to pay the $5000 because his car was the first I have seen with a nice clean body, but like you mentiond i think I should be more patient, and wait till the right one comes along, even if that means waiting untill next spring when Im in a better position to buy one.

Get another EG

If i were you, i'd get another EG. The EG 4 door looks like crap (no offence) while the EG hatch and coupe are real nice. And with another EG, you wouldn't have to worry too much about the rust, motor, etc cause it will be a newer car. And the EG's are easier for engine swaps. Plus you get the benefit of power steering, air conditioning, power mirrors etc.
