considering 6th/7th gen. Civic

I am looking for a new car (not brand new) and considering some Civics.

I am wondering about the specs and mod options for 6th and 7th generation Civics. Is the Civic Si the best bet for mods?

The years I'd probably be looking at would be '99 to '02. I like the Si since it already has 160 hp. But, this is just for 5 spd coupe styles?

Is there anywhere that lists the specs including those for SE? Also, is the '00 to '01 Civic Si engine also 160 hp?

Lastly, my plan would be to initially upgrade with header, performance exhaust and cold air intake. Comments about that?

The other cars I'm considering include '99-'01 Accord EX/R 5spd, '99-'01 Integra and '99 Prelude.

If anyone has any advice regarding the 6th Civics I'd appreciate it. My current car is an early 90s Civic and I want something with more power/speed/options etc.

Thanks.

Welcome mate. First off, search is your friend

http://www.streettuners.com/curve/en...ine_specs.html

The 99-00 Sir has 160 hp, b16a2. The 01+ Si has 127 hp. Not sure if they made the hatch SiR until 2002, k-series??

And if you want my opinion, I'm very happy with my 6th gen and would recommend the same. Get an EX if you like the coupe and save your dough for a type R swap.

Thanks, man!

Well, I'm a big believer in google! But, I haven't found a lot of info on '00 and '01 specs. I wanted to compare the '99 and '00 Civic Si with the '01 Civic Si Coupe (only 127 hp but more torque). Also, I was curious about the Special Editions as I can't find much info but I think they're close to the Ex specs, right? Other than that, I even found info here:

http://www.torontocivics.com/generations.shtml

http://www.torontocivics.com/articles/engineguide.html

But, I was hoping for additional info and subjective opinions as well! Thanks for the feedback! I'm going to test drive some 6th gen Si Civics and go from there.

The 6th generation has a lot of aftermarket support compared to the 7th, so if you are looking to do a lot of mods then I would say go for the 6th.

the 02+ SiR hatch has 160hp

dunno where u found a SI with 160hp unless ur buyin it from the states, but yes ur best bang for the buck is probably pickin up a SiR. EK or EP3

I wouldn't even bother looking for an 99-00 si-r. I tried last year.. every car I went to see had something majorly wrong with it. Re-badged si-rs.. insurance write-offs, stolen, etc. It's very, very hard to find one with a clean title. They get stolen all the time also, if you purchase one get a kick *** security system.

BTW sell me your ef

Are you referring to me? :-) I'll be giving my car away. lol Well, I hope to get something for it but it'll be cheap big time. There's problems with it and I'll assure any potential buyer he'll have a lot of repairs to do. I was going to offer it to a friend of mine but he might not want it when I'm ready to let it go.

You make a great point. I thought about the car and who usually buys it. I was/am afraid of finding these cars in rough shape, driven hard and even if maintained, being abused.

It's expensive to insure, too, like you mentioned. But, I want something fast, with some horsepower and a vehicle that can accelerate when it needs to. I'm tired of driving a car with only 92 hp!

I wanted a 5spd and although there's a lot of Integras for sale out there, a lot I'm finding are auto or just the base version. Thus, I thought the SI-R (thanks for correcting me as I mean Si-R, not Si!) '99 or '00 model delivers 160 hp and apparently, is better for mods. That sounds good as I wanted that option.

So far I'm not yet decided between an Integra, Prelude, Accord or Civic SI-R. But, I am concerned about my chances of finding an Integra or Civic SI-R that wasn't abused. That might apply to a Prelude as well? The unfortunate part of this is the Integra GS-R and Preludes are often very expensive which is why I started considering the Civic SI-R in the first place.

Thanks to all for their responses and for good advice and comments! I appreciate it!

Buy Mark (MY_SiR)'s black SiR (99-00 body), he is selling it at a good price (though I am not sure if he is still selling it).

Having owned both, I'd pick a 99-00 over an 01-05. The newer models drive a little nicer, the interior is a little more upmarket, but thats about it. So basically a better daily driver.

Looks can go either way, but I prefer the 99-00 models. Performance upgrades for the 01-05 are very limited in comparison to the 99-00.

An EP Hatch might be another option. I've always liked them and with the K20, mods can be fun, but it's still stuck with the crappy strut suspension.

If it was me, I'd search for a low k, 99-00 Si and go from there. SiR's are nicer, but hard to find like mentioned above. A regular Si would be a great starting point with almost unlimited engine and suspension mods available.

B20Z swap with an ITR tranny, SiR brakes/suspension with some nice wheels and I'd be happy.

on a side note:
96-98 and 99-00 are both 6th gen but 99-00 with a slightly different front end and interior i believe

however, if you think 96-98 might contain problems over the 99-00, that is not true as you'll be buying a used car, any recalls will have been done and parts will have been fixed already...

good luck on your fine...

the EP3 looks good, i love how they look (white, blue)
the motor is ok.. kinda **** for a kseries but then again if ur lookin at the sir with a K20 you might wanna loook into a rsx premium since its the same motor, design on the rsx is nicer in a way but the sir is unique and more rare

i wasnt saying not to get the 96-98 or the 01-03 because of the possible problems, it is because they are ****tier looking when compared to the mid gen revamps for both the 6th and 7th gen
