1-Horn works?
2-Lights Work?
3-Any leaks
4-too much blue smoke out of the exhaust?
5-Check Seat Belts ('plug' them in and pull hard to c if they come off)
6-Does the timing belt have cracks or tearing.
7-check windshield wipers
8-check heater and a/c or fans
9-tap the body for filler body sht thing (with means it has been repaired)
TEST DRIVE
1-brakes
2-clutch
3-trany
4-any vibrations or noises.
5-Overheating?
6-radio
7-battery
8-Hard to Start?
9-Hard to Street?
10-When u Hit the brakes does it tend to go to a side?
11-how hard it is to press the pedals

I would look for a stock one. A modded one I think would have a higher chance of being beaten on by the previous owner. Maintenance records to show the previous owner took care of it. Accident damage. Check to see if the paint matches and the body panels all line up correctly. Carfax can also help too.

there is alot of stock ones for sale, as for buying a used or stock, can you honestly say that a stock one hasnt been beaten, i hardly doubt that, every vehicle gets its fair share of hitting VTEC or up to redline. you can drive a beaten car, and pulls super hard and is well maintained or you can buy a stock driven SIR that hasnt been well cared for, there is a list of things you must consider, obviously the test drive etc... or getting a mechanic to look at it... to make an assumption like that for instance myself have an EM1, and i hit VTEC once daily is considered beating it.. i hardly think so...
anyways my car has been stored foir the last 2 years over winter..
as for mint... some guys can vouch for me or go check the EK pics and you can judge foryourself..
goodluck with the buy.
ps if a car has I/H/E dont make the assumption that its beaten and its shyt... if serious drive one and judge for yourself, my buddy had a black em1 before he blew his engine... i can honestly say even though it had I/H/E that car was CRAP

I know that was a generalization. I meant that a modded one driven by a younger guy would have a much higher chance of being beaten on by one owned by someone like me.
It always kills me when I see a classifieds add for a car that lists all these mods, but doesn't mention anything about maintenance or if the car needs anything.
Buy Chigga's. Its a very nice SiR.

I just looked on autotrader and there is only a couple on there. I wouldn't buy any of them.
My neighbour has an 00 Si. Original owner, car is stock, but he told me he has never changed the tranny fluid. He probably doesn't beat on it, but the fact that he has never once performed a $70 MTF change would stop me from buying it.
Dexst, have you checked on insurance rates? They can be very, very high for that car.

If an engine can't take a good beat, then its quality is questionable. Honda being the largest engine manufacturer in the world, I have faith in its engine. Provided it is not modified wrongly. In stock form, I can't see "beating" being a problem if it was meant to take it that high.
I race my stock B20B, red line it all the time. Regular oil change, still works fine.

there's a difference between beaten and redline. heck I could beat a car into the ground driving it and never hit redline. you wanna know how the owner drove the car, get them to take you for a test drive in the car before you buy. watch for them doing things like riding the clutch, grinding the gears etc. get htem to "open it up" and see how far they push it. they likely won't push as hard with you in the car but you'll get an idea. then you drive it and see how they react to things you do.

i think it is...cuz thats just third party...a car like the SIR is stolen quickly so you better get it completely covered. then add the cost of car payments and maintenance etc.
from what i remember, the OP is a 20 something student.
