CAI to short ram in the winter?

Hey,

I recently installed a CAI on my civic. I was wondering if I should change it to a short ram for the winter? Or is it safe enuff in the fenders that it wont suck up liquid from the snow/slush.

thanx

Steven

im in the same boat as you man....im thinking it will be ok unless i run over a fat puddle or unless i have to ride over some deep snow... but the odds of that are unlikly for me but it could still happen i guess...

i would also like to hear what people have to say about this

I have a buddy that also has a civic hb with a CAI and he's saying that the 1.5L engine is not strong enuff to suck water up the intake. How true this is I dunno, so I figure i get a few more opinions.

the chance of any sort of hydrolock is low.........

unless you run over a pond of water, its not likely you'll suck up any water/snow

i drove with a cold air intake on my civic for 2 winters with no problems. Then when i went to the dyno and found out that a SRI makes a few more whp than the CAI i ditched the CAI for a SRI.

better safe then sorry.. you could drive through a huge pile of melted slush or something and suck up a bit of water. Better off to stay sri. Plus sri's give you better low end

I had a CAI and pulled out the filter after the winter was done, and it was filthy as hell. I use a SRI now and happy with that.

I run my CAI year round...plus it sounds really nice at -40 at start up, it sounds like it could suck the chrome off a trailer hitch

I ran mine for a few winters too. The filter was 16" off the ground, so you would need to drive through a very deep amount of water/slush to suck any thing up. I personally wouldn't worry about it.

I put my CAI to a short arm for the winter just to be on the safe side, beause i got water in my engine once from rain, and i am not letting it happen again in the winter.

if you drive your car through that much water, you sort of deserve to have bad stuff happen to your car.
Don't worry about using a CAI in the winter....its all good.

well i always change mine not because i am worried about water sucking in, but instead filter getting all ****ed up with sluch and salt etc. as brian said it gets filthy as hell.
