Interior in good shape
Some sort of green (not snot, at least )
Car was in great shape, but filthy and without it's BMW rims. Will clean up really nicely. $6500.00!
Thinkin' really hard about this one

before my Civic I drove a '93 320i with a lot of added options, it only had 89,000km on it. I had it for 2 years, I bought it for $10,000 and it ended up costing $7000 in problems, and I am telling you this thing was PERFECT when I bought it. BMW's work like this, you are driving normally and then BANG something happens out of no where, then you find out damn I can only get the part from BMW $7000 later you are crying. If you buy a BMW it better be under warrenty, as soon as it isn't GET RID OF IT!!!!!
That is MY opinion.

Thanks for your experience. I'm sure the 92 is not under any sort of warranty.
If I buy it, it'll be researched as much as possible. I guess any second hand car is a crap shoot, except for a Civic:-)

Do you know anybody that deals alot with BMW, in terms of garages or a mechanic? What I'm saying is ask garages about that year's BMW, if you get great reviews, then buy it. Why did he rebuild the engine? Ask him for the records, did you check carfax, I have the membership, if you want I can give my account and you check it out for yourself or you can give me the vin # and I will email you everything that I can possible find out about the car. I have a mech. that dealers with the BMW dealers, he does everything for them, unfortunately, he is on vocation, back next week, I can ask him.

Thanks a lot for the info.
I'm working on the BMW mechanic check. Do you know of a place where I can get a diagnostic?
It seems like a good deal, the fellow selling is a business acquaintance (Audiophilia is reviewing his company's speakers, so it is in his best interest not to screw me )
It needs a little cosmetic TLC, but sounds and runs well. Still, S@urns comments have a ring of authority about them (not him, his comments).
As far as the engine rebuild, the seller mentioned the previous owner overheated (cooked?) the engine. He mentioned a new clutch, water pump, and thought the 'rebuild' was more in that vein, i.e. clutch, pump, etc.
If it was a Honda, I woudn't think twice, but a BMW? I'm thinking!
I'm going to post on maxbimmer.com and see what they say. I must admit to being amazed at the expertise of TCC posters.
I may take you up on the Carfax. Much appreciated.
If the deal has not finished, I'll PM for details of your mechanic friend.

Thanks, Marty...
It really is a much more difficult decision than I had antcipated. I have always wanted a BMW, but, as you all know, love my Civic. My worst nightmare is to sell my incredibly reliable, beautiful Si, drive the BMW for a week, then wallop! A catastrophic failure! I'm in the crap, and some happy dude is driving a fab Civic Coupe Si. I think I'd cry:cry:

anthony;
go to Mantis Racing...they are on Speers road in Oakville/Burlington. i know them (the owner is married to my neighbours daughter...i see them quite often). they only deal with german cars, they are best in the business, but they are expensive when it comes to getting work done. they will tell you exactly what the car needs. look them up on 411.ca
