Banning people

To my fellow TCCers,

I was recently threatened to be banned for challenging rule number 9 on the classifieds section.

When I was supposedly in violation of the rule it read like this:

09. One bump a day please....pick your time wisely.

How would you interpret this? Would you think one bump per day meant once every 24 hours? Or would you think once every time the date changes? According to the mod, I was in direct violation of this rule because the ****** between my last 2 posts was about 12 hours apart and not the full 24 eventhough the posts were written on two different dates.

Now get this. Rule number 9 was recently ammended to this:

09. One bump a day please....pick your time wisely. (This means the date has to change over before you post again for those who do not understand this rule)

When I pm'd the mod about this change he replied back:

Rules were not changed, it was amended so people like you who have a problem understanding what is written can have a better idea of what "once a day" means.

People like me? According to this reply, rule number 9 never enforced bumps to be 24 hours apart but rather separated by date changes only. So is there any merit in accusing me of breaking rules here? I think the mod put his foot into his mouth on this one.

Here is the mod's final comment to me:

If you want to continue to argue about it, then go ahead, I am done with this conversation. It is a website, if you have nothing better to do than argue about a rule which you were in violation, by all means, do so. I have better things to do than hold your hand and explain the rules to you.

Actually, I do have better things to do than to argue with a mod who threaten to ban people without basis. And he insists that I'm still in violation of the rules. Is he on drugs or something?

I'm writing this because I feel this mod shouldn't get away with such unprofessional behavior. TCC is "just a website" as he calls it. For me, TCC has grown to a very large and useful community through lots of hard work and it only takes an idiot to bring everything down. Anyhow, if I get banned for writing this rant then I just want to say it was great knowing you all. You've been a great bunch.

Take care!

LOL...first you wouldn't be banned from the site for multiple bumps. Just from classifieds.

One bump per day means if you bump today March 18, you cannot bump again until March 19. We don't care if you do it at 11 pm, then again at 12:01 am on the 19th. This rule was put in place to slow the movement in the classifieds so all ads can be seen. We used to have people bump 10 times in a day, and then other peoples ads would fall off the first page quickly. This rule applies to everyone so it is fair to all who post ads.

12 hours breaks the rule if you bump at 9am and then again at 9pm on the same day. What is the issue?? Did you post/bump or bump/bump in the same day?? If you did then you broke the rule. The mod sent you a PM, you are lucky, other mods just close your ad and don't explain it to you. Then they request your removal from classifieds.

Seriously...I've always understood the argument to be one day. One day = 24 hours, thus if I were to bump, itd have to be 24 hours from when I last posted/bumped.

Yes, you could post technically at 6 pm then bump at 2 am but I would think to most people, that is too soon in the context of the rules. I see you've registered in May 2004. I have been here since June 2005. I have understood this to be the rule and have never questioned it because unlimited bumping creates unfair opportunities for those who are at their computers 24/7.

Perhaps the mods could rewritten the rule to be explicitly clear for people like yourself who either do not understand or for people who wish to bend the rules. For yourself personally, use this as a lesson and I guess move on.

PS. Mods are not infallible. They are humans like ourselves and sometimes make mistakes. They are faced with policeing this board without any pay. Sure that mod may have been a little "curt" with you but when your dealing with something as volitile as a classifieds boards; its hard not to be. Even people that they know just become another "face" in their duties as a moderator. Cut em a little slack and like I said, move on.

I never bump on the same day. I had to pm him for an explanation and his views on bumping are the opposite of yours.

There is basis. Apparently you just can't wrap your head around the rules. You don't like the rules don't use our classifieds. You have a problem with the way things are done on MY website feel free to leave.

come on now.. there is no need to call the mod an idiot. You obvs. broke a rule (or what he thought was you breaking it) so he gave you a warning.

I was the mod in question and stand by what I wrote. If it take me 3 to 4 pm's to explain one rule that no one else has a problem with, then yes, I am not going to continue to argue about it. Plain and simple. To me, imo, he is has a problem of being told he is wrong and needs to argue the point until he is justified that he is right.

As far as my views being different than Eletronblue's, it is not different, she has basically said the same thing, you bumped within the same day, you were in violation. Also, all the mods/admins are aware of this situation before you even sent me your first pm, so they know the background on it as well.

So would you like me to say you were right and I was wrong?

Not gonna happen.

Get over it and move on.
