FYI, I have been driving a courtesy 2003 1.7 EL while my 1.6 EL is in for repairs at the dealer. I find the 1.7 is a very nice car and definitely has more of a luxury feel than the 1.6. At the same time though, I find that the 1.6 seems to have more of a performance feel to it than the 1.7 in terms of handling and acceleration.

I'm not suprised. I believe for the 1.7 they changed the car enough to try and give it a smoother ride so you don't feel the road as much. It's quieter inside. The pickup is the same but probably doesn't feel the same beacuse it's been tuned so it gives more of a small sized luxury car feel.

Thats true, but from my experience I don't find it to make that much of a handling difference when comparing stock versus stock, like the 1.6 EL vs. 1.7 EL or Integra vs. RSX. If anything, I find the mac strut setup to make for a slightly smoother rider vs. double wishbone.
