if you want hi performance street car then i would suggest NO ABS.
then replace your entire braking system with an aftermarket brand like BAER, Willwood, Rotora etc..... and dont forget to upgrade the brakes lines to SS ones and bb and pv etc too

K so any honda I buy is fine then, I can just swap drums with disc's in back, but i'm conserend about saftey, if I have a nice set of brakes.. I should be able to stop faster with less force "given the tires are good too", which means in an emergency I would stop faster?

ABS does not decrease you braking distance in any conditions as it pulses the brakes causing the tires to lock then unlock, all abs does and is designed to do is to give you more stability it emergency situtations. For a novice driver then abs may be the way to go but for those people out there that have excellent year round driving skills and know the limits of themselves and their cars then to them abs is really only an annoyance. Why do you think therent arent any race cars equipped with abs?

(Threshold braking is attained there is maximum negative acceleration, just before the wheels locks up, which depends on the amount of traction available between the tire and road surface, as well as the drivers ability to find this point through pedal feel.)
Most drivers in a "panic" situation just mash the centre pedal and hope for the best. I'm not afraid to say that I've done so myself on multiple occasions whiles driving ABS equipped vehicles. Like Thrill_House and loudsubz mentioned the benefit of ABS is not in the stopping distance, but rather that it allows the driver to maintain steering capability without having think about how hard to press the brake pedal.
Thrill_House, I beg to differ with you on the point that there are ALOT of race cars that use ABS braking systems. Do a little research and I'm sure you will find a few that will surprise you. Speed GT Audi RS6 Quattros had it when they ran last year, quite the odd sound when on the brakes into a slow corner.

ABS is not allowed on race cars because of rules, not because it slows them down in any way. It's an unfair driving advantage because you can brake way later in a turn if you have something preventing your wheels from locking. Keep in mind that if ABS were allowed on race cars it would be set to respond differently than on street cars.
For the street, having ABS or not having ABS makes absolutely no difference until you lock the wheels while braking. If this happens on the road then you should have ABS on your car since you aren't driving it properly.

I'm so confused now, I want a "high performance street car", but I want it to be extremely safe, considering my girlfriend will be in the car, all the time, I just don't know if it's a worthy investment, if instead I just get a good braking system?

u arleady had a thread about this a while back beyaz :P Anywho, look at all of us that dont have abs. Just because we have no abs doesnt make our cars unsafe. u need to figure out what best suits your style, alot of people out there love abs and a loot of people hate it. depends on what u really prefer.

With ABS there are more things to go wrong. I wouldn't buy a car with ABS simply b/c i've had one with and one without and i much prefer the one without ABS.
Although, in theory it is a good thing.

LOL
serioulsy thats the most safest car on the road.
your not going to die RELAX.
unless you dont know how to drive a car and your a moron and race people you dont have to worry about abs and non abs.
and if you are like the above mentioned then you deserve to die

I still like ABS just for the extra bit of control. You will hard pressed to find a Honda/Acura with 4 wheel discs and no ABS unlessit was a swap an the ABS unit was not incorporated. You could always do a rear disc swap and upgrade the fronts wiuth better pads and rotors.

i don't like my abs too much time to time.... everything has its advantage and disadvantage..... i don't think i have perfect skills, but skill-wise, i'm quite use to non-abs vehicles way more because i've been driving non-abs for a whole lot more than my abs civic now....
i think they people who should not be driving are the ones who race people and try to be a streetracer..... not people who loves their abs which means those who loves safety as well... i'm sure you would've love abs if we told you it was better haha
