4th Gen Hatches

i am now also considering getting a 4th gen hatch because the look grew on me. i am still considering a 5th gen hatch but i want to look into 4th gens too.
I was wondering what type of engines were available for the 4th gen civics and what the model years were. (88-91?)
what different trim models did they come in and how much should i expect to pay?

Only one real motor for the 4th gen...

ZC..

Ask Dented DX for a demonstration...

They came in CX/DX/SI/and Special edition...

what kind of engine is the ZC? how much power?
i was browsing edmunds.com and saw that the si had 108hp, dx had 92hp, and STD had 70hp. the canadian si has power steering right?

how hard would it be to find a '90 si in good condition? how much should i expect to pay?

ZC only came in the JDM and EDM Si models.
Only 4G Civics with a ZC have swaps.

As for finding a Civic, be more worried about the body than anything, you can always swap it out. Take a magnet!

Not sure about prices but they should be in the shouldn't be anymore then 4-5K for a Civic.

Why not get a CRX?

Not sure about the power steering issue though...

I would have to say that First Gen B16A and B18A are options in addition to the ZC

I'd have to say that D16Z6 (125 HP and VTEC in a lighter car!) are great to. Very cheap and lots of parts! but definetly make sure the body is as good as it can be.

ZC? What's that? Why not H22

Just kidding... Personally.. I think ZC is the best bang for the buck.. Can't go wrong with that swap.. Cheapest swap for the most amount of power in comparison.

i wouldn't get a zc, i fully regret doing the swap myself except that the swap is inexpensive. Save up a little more and get a first or 2nd gen b16 or a gsr motor. It will be worth it in the long run.

the thing thats holding me back from getting a 4th gen is that the body is usually in rough condition...
thats why im kinda swaying toward a 5th gen. but if i could find a good condition 4th gen i would be really interested. it seems like there are more used 5th gens on sale than 4th gens.

There are some 4G Civics that have the bodu in good shape, just be very patient and you'll find it.
One guy I know from N8 and the CRX boards found a mint '91 CRX Si with no rust. It took him a while to find one, but that thing looks like it just rolled off the showroom floor. Nice and clean.

Be patient man, but I can see why you'd want an 5G Civic, less chances of rust (alhough not much) and parts are easier and you have more options on swaps.

Mmm... b18c5...

just to be fair, there are two or three members with fifth gen hatches with ZC.
And I love my ZC. Still puts a smile on my face

none of them came with PS cept for auto dx and cx models...
and the zc is a greaaaaaaat motor. it's dirt cheap too. u can get the motor swapped in for around 1000.

If ya get the ZC get it rebuilt and all the minor stuff done.
It'll save you major headaches down the road!
And be kind to the motor most of all!
