4th Gen advice

I'm looking at buying a 91Si from a neighbour of mine for a beater/gf car/future project car. It is still owned by the original owner, lady driven, and maintained regularly. 160000kms, painted in the fall (was faded not crashed), certified and e-tested for $2500. Is there anything I should be looking for besides the timing belt as a problem? Thx.Mike

How's the body? Rust? Also check the chassis and make sure it wasn't involved in a big accident.

Check if there's water mark around the sunroof area inside the car.

As for the price...I have a feeling that it is a bit on the high side.

regards,
Mugen C

Price sounds alright to me.(YOu mean CRX or Civic?)
Just check for rust like Mugen C says (Take a magnet) and if you can take it to your mechanic to check out.

sounds like a very good deal for that year/model and km.
Check rear wells, rocker panels, all mouldings. That's about it and the general, dents, key marks, scracthes, interior condition, motor, check for clutch slipping and grinding in transmission.
silvercrx- I think he means civic si b/c if it was a crx he probably would have posted 2nd gen instead of 4th

Most Si's on the Trader that year/kms are over $3500. The car was rwecently painted, so it has 0 rust. It is a neighbours car, so i remember seeing it before it was painted. Just scratches, small dents, little rust. I took it for a drive last night, and it drives really nice. Tapes won't play but radio works, seats have a few rips and cig burns. Timing belt needs to be changed, and it needs a tune up, but otherwise it looks good. I'm taking it to a mechanic to get it checked out this week. Thanks for the replies. Mike

If there was rust before USE THE MAGNET.

Why? Because depending on how it was fixed, they could have went all out and got new metal welded in the corner, and the old stuff cut out, preventing the rust from coming back again.

But if they sanded out the old rust and put bondo over it, then mostl likely over a little while the rust will come back and bubble under the paint and you will have to get it done right.
