2008 Civic Lease Rates

Is it just me or is Honda offering a 1.5% lease rate on all civics including Si?

Thats pretty unheard of... I get get a new Si for 330 tax in nothing down for a 60 month lease? Thats tempting!

that is true actually. honda is offering 1.5% ALR for upto 60 months with the option of zero down at the moment. hell of a tempting deal for sure and due to this...i have been strongly considering to lease the 08 si sedan. i just have to figure out my timing and some other family issues.

having said that....i wonder how long will this offer last? one of the sales agents at my neighborhood dealership told me that expect it to last for the rest of the season....meaning it will be there for sure until year end. comes new year....i dunno. i suspect it might stay cuz the pressure on the canadian dealerships, due to price parity with US, will only increase as time goes by.

it still sucks ***** to see the price difference of over 5000 dollars on the si vehicles south of the border...that is 20% of the vehcile's value alone. moreover...accessories like lip kits and stuff are double the price in canada.

i talked to one honda dealer in the NYC area and was told that the civics being old in most east cost dealerships in US are coming from Alliston, ON. and us canadians are paying a 30% higher freight cost.....such a scam.

Ed...you listening?

it's true.. 1.5% lease for up to 60 months... including the Si ... how do I know? I'm in sales at a Honda dealership. How long will it last? no one knows... I wish I had a crystal ball, and if I did I'd be rich, but it won't last long ... b/c Honda brought all these rates and rebates out to try and compensate for the disparity b/w us and the US. At the end of the day, calculate how much it would cost you to borrow $25K from your bank and then buy a car in the US CASH. The interest you pay, and not to mention the time and hassle will almost be totally insignificant if you compare the two... also, good luck finding a dealer that's near the boarder that will sell a car to you... in the past few weeks many dealers have been threatened by Honda US that they'll shut the dealership down if they continue to sell to CAD's...

Honda US and Honda Canada or two completely different entities and they watch each other's back.. back when our dollar was low, ALOT of American's came up and bought cars from us.. but Honda Canada put a stop to that pretty quick...

although the Civic is built here, the US still buys like 10X more cars or civics than we do... they buy more, they get better pricing.. simple ... at the end of the day I wish I could control pricing/rates/rebates etc... but I can't... I just do my job, which is to help YOU or whomever else is interested in a Honda buy a car... it's not to SELL anything.. 90% of the people that walk into our dealership already WANT a honda... I just make sure I give you the absolute best customer service and price works in part afterwards...

Very tempting, a brand new civic Si for 350 taxes in, then I check with insurance and they want 500 a month to insure it, even with my perfect record....ontario insurance companies are such a scam

thats true alex..thats what my insurance quote is and you would be surprised to know that this quote is 10 bucks lower than the 99 sedan i am driving. but wait...listen to this...my quote for the 08 TSX is 120 bucks a month...same as my civic while i am paying 140 for the 05 murano.

i wasnt too surprised when teh insurance guy told me that if you continue to drive the 99 civic...dont expect your rate to reduce cuz this car is stolen alot. and parts are the interchangeable b/w the highly sought after SIR models....he said that flat to my face. the fockers know this.

That's a very good point. I remember that in the summer when I was shopping around for a new car, I was looking at the possibility of getting a new Civic from the States, but in the end I ended up not getting one.

A lot of people here are complaining, and rightfully so, that we are paying more for cars than Americans do, but a lot of people don't realize that buying a new car from the States is not as easy as driving to Buffalo and picking one up.

In my case, what really determined me not to get a car in the States was the financing part. The interest rate for getting a loan for 15-20Gs (or more) from a Canadian bank is ridiculous. I wasn't able to find any bank to give me a loan for less than 7-8% interest, so the money I was saving in getting the car from the States I would've had to pay in interest at the bank. That's not to mention that I had to make sure I found a dealer that would sell to Canadians, that I had to fax all kind of papers to the dealer, the customs people, etc., and that once I brought the car here to Canada I had no warranty.

Is it fair? Well, probably not, but such is life, and we as Canadians have to deal with the situation.

As for the current 1.5% ALR, I find this to be a pretty good incentive for people to get a new car.

You are also a paid member Ed, so that works also in your favour.

lol, if I was manager I'd love to just ***** these cars out... but as I said before, I will guarantee good pricing, and to save you guys a bunch of hassle by going to a whole bunch load of dealerships you can come to me

if people still feel the need to "shop" prices, then feel free to come to me last and I can see where it falls as long as the price is legitimate...

Eventhough there are many people saying they want an Si, realistically I don't see it. Insurance is way too much for most of the younger ones and premium gas isn't cheap. Even with the low lease rates, you still have to add freight/pdi and taxes. My leased Si is almost $500 a month at just under 6%.
