1999 Honda Civic Si

Hey guys, I want to get the ecu modded and a new exhaust system.. just so the vehicle sounds great and a new cold air intake...
the 1999 honda civic si has a D16 engine..

can anyone point me in the right direction as I'm lost.. how do I get the ecu chipped.. and where do I go for the specific exhaust and cold air intake parts?

Thanks buds

You don't need to chip your ECU for a CAI.
Most often people get there ECU chipped beacause they have a Turbo or a high comp N/A build and they want to tune.

doesn't modding the ecu give you more power regardless?

Where could I find a cheap-*** turbo too bro?
Sorry for the idiotic questions

Cheap is not always good. Keep checking classifieds. Just a while ago saw 14b turbo with manifold/dp/injectors/fuel pump/fridge for 450$. For intake just get one of eBay, and for exhaust, figure out what you want, either cat back or just a muffler or wanna convert full exhaust to bigger piping [must warn you going bigger than 2.5" is is pointless].
For chip, you could get the ecu chipped so vtec would engage at different rpm or move rev limiter higher[not safe to move unless you got engine work]

Any idea as to where you found that..
my issue is I have zero knowledge of vehicles so I don't know what turbo to look for..
Usually I just search D16 civic turbo but get no results..
What exhaust would I get that'll make the nicest sound/purr ?

Thanks a ton bro.

Sirux,

I think you need to sort out exactly what you want first, then ask questions.

Do you want it to just sound good? or do you actually want more power? How much are you willing to spend?

When it comes to going turbo, do it right the first time, and don't cheap out. If you do, you'll end up spending more money down the road when you blow your motor or burn through several turbos...

Changing or chipping the ecu is only necessary when you are changing a major component of the engine. For example: Adding larger than stock cams, itb's, changing the fuel injectors, adding a turbo, the list goes on... Changing things like this will drastically change how the engine will run, thus the fuel/ignition maps need to be re-tuned so the engine runs properly and get the best results/power gains from such modifications. (and so you don't blow your engine)

Adding even full exhaust and intake to a stock engine like your's, it is not necessary to re-tune the ecu, the gains will be minimal and it's not worth the cost. It is only when you do a more major mod like adding a larger cam or adding a turbo, then it is a MUST to re-tune the ecu.

If you want, you can mod the ecu at any time (leaving the stock fuel/ignition maps still in the ecu) IF you plan on doing more drastic mods later on, like changing the cam or adding a turbo. When that time comes, all that needs to be done is for someone with the proper knowledge, equipment/software to hook up to your ecu and start tuning.

Hope that answers a few of your questions.

So first take some time to decide what exactly it is you want to do with this car, then we'll help you decide on which components are best for your application.

lol MPR even though a great answer but from my personal experience saying "take some time to decide what exactly it is you want to do with this car" might not get him anywhere. lol i was thinking a lot and in the meanwhile kept on spending money on random crap. then i just got pushed to the idea of turbo and i got a turbo+manifold and since then my goal has been to get my running on boost. lol
but yeah OP decide what you want and then ask for help.
btw i bought my turbo of kijiji

Yeah, I did the same thing when I was younger. Bought random crap, not sure what exactly I wanted to do with the car. But now I know and wish I hadn't spent that money back then, because now I know the direction I want to take with my current car and I have to save up to do it.

I'm just trying to help him decide what exactly he wants to do with the car. Plus it's hard to tell someone which parts to buy if they don't know what they want. If he just wants it to sound nice, an axle-back muffler can do that. But if you want power and good sound, thats a different thing all together.

yoo OP go on kijiji go to the category "parts and accessories" and type "civic" and go down the list.

ull see things such as "D series turbo kit CHEAPP", or "D series intake" or "D series exhaust"

for now just get a nice intake and header and exhuast because no matter what u end up doing to ur motor ( N/A, Boost ) ull need that **** anyways....so until u think about what u wanna do get an intake and header and ull make lots of noise!

my bad scrider, i did it again, hope ur not on ur blackberry

Also, remeber this:

Cheap, Reliable, Fast.

Pick 2.

If it's cheap and reliable, it won't be fast. If it's cheap and fast, it won't be reliable. If it's fast and reliable, it won't be cheap.

This is the reality of modifying/tuning a car.

Look in the TCC classifieds. There are tons of parts there. Start with the basics. Suspension stuff, maybe an intake and exhaust or dont do anything and save for a swap.

soo true. you think the part is good and very cheap but when you compare with more expensive brand name parts you notice the difference right away.
occasionaly you can find cheap good parts, but i would never cheap out unless i knew that the part was good.
