$1100 to do a b20 vtec conversion :S
just called up ivan at igarage and he told me 1100 to do a vtec conversion with the parts
im not saying that a ridiculous price but REALLY he charges 600 for an engine swap (i think he thought i wanted him to get the parts) so i wanted to know exactly what parts i needed and where to go to get er' done
i THINK i need to buy eagle tie rods and swap the pistons but you guys will know better
(btw i did search didnt get a definitive answer)

Off Hondatech:
Let's begin. Now, there are a few NECESSARY things to do/parts to buy when building a "reliable" lsvtec/b20vtec:
-LS/B20 (same) ARP rod bolts
-GSR/ITR (same) ARP head studs (NON-B17)
-New LS (90-01) B18a/b (for 81mm) or B20 (for 84mm) head gasket (MLS) or aftermarket for your non-OEM bore
-New ACL bearings - LS/B20 (same)
-New Hastings piston rings (or OEM)
-New OEM D/Bseries (same) valve seals
-New OEM Dohc Vtec Bseries (B16/GSR/ITR) 22T water pump
-New OEM P72 GSR/ITR timing belt (not B17)
-New OEM P72 oil pump (96+ GSR/LS/B20/ITR/B16 - all the same)
-Magnetic oil drain plug (important for break in)
-New NGK V-power BKR6E spark plugs (stock LS pistons) OR NGK V-power BKR7E spark plugs for 10.0-12.0:1 compression, or NGK V-power R5671A-8 plugs for 12.0:1+ compression
-Adjustable Fuel Pressure regulator (necessary for stock ECU/injectors)
-In addition, you should replace all remaining gaskets and filters
Note- "same" means that the listed parts use the same part #'s from HONDA/ACURA.
Additionally:
-Shotpeen LS rods
-Hone big end of rods when using ARP rod bolts (if necessary)
-Hone cylinders (if necessary)
-Balance the entire rotating assembly
Do the above, and your motor will reward you with reliability.
Other things to consider for making power:
-A complete 2.5 inch exhaust (header, cat, exhaust piping, and muffler)
-Hondata/Passwordjdm intake manifold gasket
-Adjustable cam gears (even for stock cams, because lsvtec timing will ALWAYS be slightly off)
-OEM P30(SIR2 B16)/P73(ITR) pistons or forged 11.5:1+ pistons (forged aftermarket pistons can be run on stock rods)
-Higher lift/longer duration cams (read below for cams)
-Stiffer valve springs (read below for valve springs)
-Better intake manifold (ITR, AEBS, Skunk2, JG, Ported ITR, custom, etc.)
-Reputable Port/Polish work on the head
-Better header (SMSP, RMF, Hytech, DTR/SSR, Hytech, ANR, Rage, custom, etc.)
-310cc injectors (at a minimum)
-Sleeved to 84+mm
-extensive tuning

wait...OP....that's $1,100 INCLUDING parts???
that's DIRT CHEAP. The head alone will cost you ~$500, ARP rod bolts ~$150, Vtec conversion kit ~$150, then all the other OEM vtec stuff you need....a proper/reliable lsvtec should cost $2~3000 (Parts & labor)
naw....i think Ivan is saying just labor...

Also you should factor in turning. I'm not sure if Ivan tunes cars, but if not you'll have to get that done elsewhere because since the b20/vtec is obviously not a production motor there is no "proper" ECU you can just run and be fine, you have to custom make that ****.
Not sure how much it goes for but my guess would $500ish for a decent tune..

if you don't know exactly whats included, how can you pass judgement on the price?
I'd say call him back and ask him EXACTLY whats included.
I can give you a price on labour + tune if you want to PM me.

i asked him how much would it cost to do a vtec conversion on my b20 and said i had the gsr head already
he said 1100
i called abstrakt motion (store behind igarage) they said something like 700
250 for labour and they provide parts and machining

i had a rough idea on what i needed (head gasket, oil line, throttle cable, fittings, oild pump...) but no way those parts could come up to 1100
i was actually planning on PM'ing you but no money now =(

I was waiting for Zeeman to show up on this thread!
I'll be PMing you when I get some cash together and do a little more research.
thx dood
#15
ohh.. you already have the B20 in your car... yah.. $1100 sounds about right
#18
ya but what exactly was done? was it just the belt or were all the required parts changed ? like waterpump, other belts, tensioneer, etc.

ok bengali are you doing a swap or not because if you are not please stop wasting people's time...first you posted an add saying testing water which i was watching because i wanted your engine then you changed it to a for sale which i responded too and you told me you are going to sell me the engine, then when i call u the other day u say u dont know if you doing a swap anymore and now you are posting this thread please make up your mind and dont waste other people's valuable time. and my advice is if you dont have the cash to do something just live with what you have there is no need for you to try any possible way to get power for cheap...why dont you just build on you d16?
