question

just a question, what stops your affliates from giving the same deals to non-TOcivic paid members?...... I mean they are not a large chain like walmart or something that can afford giving special deals to a specific group, wouldn't your affliates be more then happy to give the same price to any other person?
in this question i'm assuming the no-tocivic paid member has found out about some kind of deal only paid members should get...

maybe you are correct....but at least I know for sure...and without a hassle.... this are the deals I am guaranteed to get because I am a part of the TCC.
To me the affiliates is just an added bonus to an already great club. If you are not a member yet, I would highly suggest coming out a few meets, meet the members and then make a decision. This is what 94EG6HB and I did recently and I can tell you from personal experience they are a great group of people...

The discounts are perks. If you're joining just for the discounts then you are joining for the wrong reason. You might as well spend that $30 on mugen shoulder pads instead.

90EFHB said it best. Come out to meets and events and learn what the club is about 1st hand.

I haven't been out long but so far every meet. Just got home from meeting with a few of the guys of TCC. If you honestly ask, it is a fun bunch and joining the club was not a mistake since there is of course JUGGLEZ, PULOVR, OCTANETEDDY, CANTONAGOD, AND SO MANY OTHERS. If you come out to the meets hang out talk to everyone you'll have a good time so think about it this way. Either be bored or kick back with the club and chill. The discounts are a bonus but just from having fun on the cruises and meets it was well worth it

ok sorry not to criticize or anything again, but is the $30 going straight to the website fee's? because yes you said you have fun and so on at meets? but why would you need to pay $30 for that? i mean there isn't any cost to setup and have the meets right?

netcbc: I'm on the same boat as you. I've been to 2 meets, and I've met a couple of people. Appearantly, some of them I already knew prior to TCC. Small world. But anyways, I haven't joined yet, and I probably will join before August 7 comes along. Some people do seem pretty nice, even though I haven't been formally introduced. There are even some people that I've talked to at the meets, and I don't even know their real or usernames. Hmmm? It would be nice to put a name to a face. Oh well.

A quote from Juggz....

"As the club grows and the membership base increases, so does our operating costs. We've put this off for quite a while but unfortunately we can no longer afford to do so."

It goes into help keeping this site open.

And how would you find out about this meet if not for the web board?

thats not my point, my point was, when i was asking what does the $30 go for, if it was mainly for good deals?
People were saying that the meets were way better then the deals and that they have lots of fun and so on, then my question was so we are paying for the fun meets?

but now i can see that its for the extra bandwidth being used......
sorry another question, if there are more members, doesn't that mean more money is comming in?

Yes, I would say you are correct, more money is coming in.
My understanding is that with this money it will allow the TCC to have more club events/bbq etc.... that may be subsidized/paid for by the club.
There is a lot of effort/expenses in running a club of any type and all these guys are doing stuff for free because they have a passion for the car and want to see this venture succeed.
As a side note.....
Maybe it is a good idea for the club to post a balance sheet each year in the members section or something to show all the members where the funds have gone.
I dunno what do others think?

Look here.... http://www.torontocivics.com/tccforums/

See where it says members? 900+? (Members: 958, Threads: 4,045, Posts: 39,898 ) only a portion of those have paid for a membership......the rest just sign on to post and in some instances, to spy......ie other clubs....cops.....the pope.
If a good portion of those people did pay for membership, my guess is the fees would not have gone up.......

Think of it this way......2/3rds of those 900+ members are lurkers....they don't come out to meets....they don't go to group gatherings.....they just sit there and enjoy the "freebies" not realizing that it takes cash to keep a web site open. (yes I know.....some of the non-paid members do show up for these things). Even if they charged $10 for a sign up fee, just to log on for the year, I would gladly pay it.......it would also keep out all the "other" people that just come here to post **** and bash our club from logging on. I have yet to meet someone that would pay a fee, just to log onto a board to complain about it.

The club fee is for the web site first and formost.....the perks that come with being a PAID member is exactly that....PERKS.

Gezz, I'm not even a mod and I'm posting stuff like this. LOL
