Powerslot/Hawk HPS vs Brembo/Akebono ACT Ceramic

I'm replacing my front brakes for my 99 Civic SiR and would like to know what is the better value.

Just to give you some background I replaced my rear brakes 2 years ago with Powerslot rotors & Hawk HPS pads. I can do the same for the front for $400. However, would a Brembo blank & Akebono ACT Ceramic at $275 be a better value?

Cheers

Brembo blanks are pretty boring. I'd rather get some generic blank if you were going to go that route. For super value maybe consider CT's premium rotor/pad deal. Buy them once, get them free for the life of your car, all you have to do is pay for labour to get them replaced. I think they're still offering that deal.

Having said that, I think it might be better if you matched what you're running on the rear.

I can't speak for the rotors you mentioned. Haven't had any experience with them.

I would recommend the Ate groved rotors from crappy-tire. Good prince and unbelievable performance. I'm also using the cheap $20 pads with these rotors and they STOP! I've hit the track with them, they take the abuse. Have the same car as you (00-SiR).

Cheers.

PS. if you haven't done so yet, flush and bleed the entire brake lines/system with new DOT4 brake fluid (do NOT use DOT5)... makes a big difference in braking performance.

Thanks for the advice guys. I think I'm going to stick with the Powerslot/Hawk combo as that is what I put in the rear and it's been performing well over the last 2 years

Awesome news. Not only did I stick with the Powerslot/Hawk combo, but I also got a great price at Tires 23 and it only took an extra 2 business days to ensure that all parts were in stock. I saved $60 vs. buying online (mainly because of shipping savings and that Tires 23 had an equally good price). Plus I saved even $60 more because I hadn't realized before that the pads come in a set for the left AND right.

MPR, thanks for the advice on brake fluid, I picked up a bottle of DOT4. Gonna flush the fronts & rears. Looking fluid to having good stopping power again!
