what kind of engine

^^ditto. cuz without a price range you could stuff any motor into the car and make it work. also what are you plannin on doing with the car? if you want a race car or just a fuel efficient car you rgonna be looking at two totally different motors.

Guess my question is along the same lines as this thread, so I'll ask here...
'92 Civic Si HB with the Z6 w/ manual trans right now. Engine is getting tired, so its either get a D15B swap done, or something with more torque ... any suggestions?
The car is mainly used in city and highway(rush hour) commuting, and it'd be nice if I had a bit more low end grunt. Another thing I like about the stock setup is that 120km\hr in 5th is around 3Krpm, so its not like the car is screaming down the highway, and I'd like to keep it that way, or maybe even taller gear.
How would the car behave\feel with a B20 in it?
How tall are the gears in the B-series trans that'll go with this motor?
Not looking for a screamer right now, but it'd be nice to have the option to modify the existing block and turning it into a screamer later on.
So yeah, please let me know what route to look at, and why.
BTW, my budget is in and around $2K with maybe a bit of room to work with.

b20 w/LS tranny.
It uses 87 octane gas, cruises on the highway roughly 3100rpms @ 120km/hr.
B20s have lots of low-end power due to their 2L of displacement, and is a straight forward swap. B20s can be found for $400-700 now, LS trannys are pretty cheap as well ($100-400) and the rest of the swap parts aren't too expensive or hard to find (axles, mounts, shift linkages, ecu).

Okay, so it seems the LS tranny is THE way to go for mileage, but how badly would the B20 scream while cruising at 120km\hr with ...
1) GSR tranny
2) JDM Type-R tranny
I'm just thinking long term here, and I know in about a year I'd be looking at converting the B20 into VTEC, and just wondering if I should just bite the bullet now and get a better tranny or just get the LS tranny for now, and shop for another one a year from now?
All depends if the car's gonna be screaming at 3500rpm cruising at 120km\hr or higher ...

with a GSR you'll be around 3900
with an usdm ITR (4.440 final drive) you'll be around 4000
with a jdm ITR (4.785 final drive) you'll be around 4400
with a b16 you'll be at 4200 (had one in my car for years)
This is with a stock sized rim/tire @ 120km/hr

Great info ... thanks man!
This might sound like a dumb question, but is there anyway to have a tranny where the first 4 gears are short'n fun, then the 5th gear is nice'n tall for highway cruisin? I know I'll probably have to have an ITR tranny and get the 5th gear changed to a much taller one, but is this possible? If so, what combination tranny and 5th gear along with final gear would you recommend?
Like I said, its probably a dumb question, but I won't learn if I don't ask.
