Emissions

I have a '97 EX. It has a valve seal gone and burns oil. Any idea if this might pass emissions? I'm assuming not. Anybody have such luck?

Cheers

if it burns oil probably not

Eirik 26-Oct-2008 04:46 PM

i figured as much. I just thought I'd ask.

thanks

just from past xperience because when it burns oil it passes through ur exhaust and like juss clogs up everything and wen they put the stick thing in the tip it juss ucks everything up...iunno i was just told that

I'm in the same boat as the op. I am pretty sure it will mess up your HC score.

My old eg burned a bit of oil but still passed. The HC numbers may have been near the upper limit.

Eirik 27-Oct-2008 05:03 PM

well, i hear it'll be cheaper to replace the engine than to fix the seal, not too mention for one that has lower k's. I'll just go for it. $35.

Thanks guys.

Eirik 27-Oct-2008 07:39 PM

which engines are those? I'm new to this. what do they go for? what are the specs? Are they an easy swap?

ol Dusty 27-Oct-2008 08:14 PM

SOHC vtec motors from jdm eg,s and si/ex-v ek's ~130hp range. search vendors and affiliates for pricing ideas

Eirik 28-Oct-2008 04:48 PM

can anybody list a reputable distributer of jdm engines? or a few in the gta?

thanks

If they physically see you burning oil, they wont even test it

Eirik 28-Oct-2008 09:55 PM

thanks

Eirik 29-Oct-2008 04:20 PM

ya, it failed. they said it was most likely the air filter or the 02 sensor.

Probably the filter. would the oil burning contribute to the CO readings?>

anybody?

Eirik 30-Oct-2008 04:04 PM

It passed! changed the air filter and some of the other readings went up a bit.
But it passed!

Halleluah!
