Hi all,

I've got a 2001 Civic auto. Whenever I start the car or turn to "ON" position the DRL light comes accompanied by a squealing sound. As soon as the headlights are turned on it goes away. I have googled the problem and it seems that some owners of 2001 Civics are having the same problem but no one has posted any answers or fixes.

Any help is appreciated as it gets real annoying.

probably a loose belt or worse case scenario a loose part like your water pump etc...

Probably your drl module under the glove box. it's a known issue

you sure under the glove box? I think under steering wheel

I have the same problem I traced it back to a relay behind the glove box. I have not replaced it yet so I am not sure if the relay just needs to be replaced. I have been dealing with other more serious issues (turbo) when I get around to fixing this I will let you guys know.

Is it a squeal or a buzzing noise? the buzzing noise would likely be the relay. Do your headlights work on high beams? If yes then it's likely the relay if not try replacing the bulbs and see what happens. Might sound silly but I have seen this and fixed this by either method. I work at a CT shop and have had both problems on em civics. That and the gas door. Somehow my 02 has had neither problem and while I'm not hard on that car I don't exactly baby it either.

Have not gotten around to fixing this yet as I was tight with the money but will try to get to it soon, very soon.

Can't say if it's definitely a squealing or buzzing...more like a combination.
The sound is only there when the DRL are on. The sound goes away when the head lights are turned on, either low or high.

If that's the case then do you mind telling me which relay (model and where to buy)?
