Quebec introduces new air pollution law
In an effort to cut down on greenhouse gas emissions, Quebec says it plans to phase in environmental vehicle inspections starting in 2013, following the example of six provinces. At first, inspection certificates will be required only for vehicles eight years and older before they may be sold, Environment Minister Pierre Arcand announced. Under Phase 2, the $60 checks will be extended to all vehicles eight years and older, whether or not they're being sold. The third phase will see mandatory inspections for all vehicles, including new ones. No timeline was provided.
