a B16 with a LS tranny is slow as *****.Your best bet is to find a LS 5th and put it in the B16 tranny that way you get the best of both worlds.
If you go with a LS tranny you will fall out of vtec in every gear when shifting.

My ys1 is at 3500rpms at 120km/h with my ls motor.
Don't use non-vtec tranny on vtec motor. I did that with d series back in the day...bad decission. Either suck it up and ride at 4200rpms or get an ls motor lol. Chris can back me up, my ls in a DA teg pulled on him in his sir. So vtec is not everything. Ls with a bigger/more aggressive cam would be a fun ride
Btw sorry for bringing up another motor...just that imo b16s are over rated. Lol

if your runing this bitch n/a then id go with eather japanses sir lsd trany, or a type r, the reason i say janaese trany and not just anyother b16 trany, is becuase the jdm trany has shorter gears then the usdm and lsd of course witch yes comes in the usdm but agian all motor you want shorter gears or so i believe... im always up for a leason so if any one thinks i dont know my **** i dont have a problem learning so please teach away haters...

ok since i read the rest of your question i would just go ls, you're not a racer only a car guy tring to get to work so go ls its alot cheaper and more practical i guess you can say, the gears are abit longer witch is good for cruzing you wont have to worry about doing 120 for 40 minutes everyday as much mine coast me 450 from tottal jdm but i wouldnt go there cuz my 3rd grind since the first day i drove it lol,

ok guys thanks for ur help i do plan on turbo later on just startin with the swap cause i got a b16 for real cheap. so i take it if i go with an ls tranny i will get longer gears but loose power or if i went with a sir tranny with an ls 5th gear im lookin at best of both worlds. so now the question is where can i get a ls 5th gear and how hard is it to install
