Tranny for 01 Civic

Hey Guys,

This is my first post here, so I'm not too sure if this is the right forum. Long story short, the tranny on my 01 civic dx is starting to go. Seems to be the pilot bearing. There's a clunking noise that goes away when the clutch is in. My mechanic says I have two options:
1. rebuild tranny (and might as well change the clutch)
2. replace tranny

He recommended getting a tranny from one of the later civics in that generation (i.e. 04 or 05). Rebuilding seems to be the more expensive option, and he says it's quite likely that the problem might emerge again.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Also, if anyone is selling a tranny from that generation, i'd be interested.

Many Thanks,
Sam
