If the bearing starts to wobble and move around breaking itself, it may damage the fork that moves when you engage the clutch. remember that everything spins fast and if something is way out of balance it will destroy everything thats in the way.

Though are you sure its the release bearing?

Hey I just thought we had a bad bearing too...

This weekend we spent the time and money and replace the bearing but the noise is still there.

Someone mentioned that maybe it is the main end shaft bearing and the only repair is to re and re the tranny.

Any one know anything about this. The car right now has a strange noise but when you push the clutch in it goes away....when release again in gear you can hear it again.

Thx

A little tranny noise in neutral with your foot off the clutch is normal. Reason you get this bit of noise is because the clutch is engaged and the input shaft in the tranny is spinning with the engine and everything is kinda loose and spinning freely inside.

However, if the noise is excessive, then something could be wrong. If it's in gear when you gear the noise, could be low fluid or an input or output shaft bearing...

Does it do it in any specific gear, or every gear?

Ya our civic does it at about 3000 rpm in 1, 2, 3. But its a really load rattle.

We took it to 2 mechanincs and without tearing it apart they both said the same thing - release bearing....so now I am on the search for a used tranny for an 05 reverb...hopin' that is the cheaper way to go then spending hundreds on a rebuild.

I did incounter the same problem in my old civic and when the bearing let go I had to replace my tranny.

Whatever you guys do, get a OEM release bearing. Even when i got my Exedy clutch i bought the OEM one cause the one they provide always seemed to go for me in the past.

Well Update on the throw out bearing/release bearing.....It was not the problem in out civic....Just got it back yesterday and we had to pick up a new tranny as the pilot bearing was gone on the inside of the tranny.

Got a deal on a used JDM in Mississauga but also did the clutch and release bearing as well while we had it all apart agian.

Go luck bud finding out what your problem is....We spent about $1200 on the repair.

Clutch noises

Hey, so I'm pretty sure i have the same problem as these guys. When in neutral there is a rotating sound when my foot is off the clutch. My shifter is very loose also. When in gear there is a lot of play on the shifter. Also, sometimes when accelerating there's another more harsh noise in 1st gear around 3000rpm. If I'm in traffic for a while that 'harsh' noise may be heard in 2nd or 3rd.
My mechanic told me it was a clutch barring problem a few months ago when i bought the car. But when i confronted him on prices he told me that it would be $800-900 plus the re-surfacing the flywheel and installation.. considering i paid over 3grand last visit I'm thinking this is a steep overpricement lol.

So if anyone could give me any advice it would help me a ton!!

The throw out bearing is a fairly common issue. Just make sure before hand that your not mistaking it with the input shaft bearing, less common and from your description I'd say it's likely the throw out bearing. Check the input while the trans is down though as this is the time to change it if your gonna. Unfortunately for you, the trans has to come out for the bearing to be changed. You don't need to take off the clutch but if the bearing is bad, it will damage the springs on the pressure plate where is contacts them and they will in turn damage the new bearing if the plate is not changed so a new clutch kit including the bearings is a smart way to go here. You should always re-surface the flywheel before installing a new clutch but this is not a big expense, most places charge $40-80 for this, so shop around (or PM for some suggestions)

I suggest checking the input while it's down because with it making noise while in gear and moving suggests that the input may also be going. If you hear the noise while moving but your in neutral then I'd say output, in gear but on the clutch pedal then the pilot, I believe I'm trying to picture in my head and guys feel free to add here if I'm wrong.
