Shifting Problem (automatic)

Hi All,

I have Honda Civic 2003 LX Automatic, the problem I have is that: When I am driving, I could feel that the gear changing from 2 to 3 is slipping..

What do I need to do about that? Is that part repairable or have to bring the whole engine down?

Any cheap location to fix would be appreciated...

Thanks
Shab

^PM sent.

Your engine is fine. But it sounds like an issue with the transmission. Maybe a worn clutch pack/band or shift solenoid. Could also be low on trany fluid. You can google step by step instructions on how to check it and top it up. I suggest trying that first to save you from paying a shop to do it. If the fluid is good and topped up I recommend you take it to a transmission shop (like Mr.Transmission...etc.) and have them check it out.

Just curious, if the transmission fluid is low, wouldn't be a problem for all gear shifting? This only happens shifting from 2nd to 3rd.

^Not necessarily. But it's something you can check before taking it to a shop so you can rule that out as a possibility.

Just check fluid first before doing anything else. There should be a dipstick on the back side of the transmission, hard to see it sometimes. Check it when car is cold.

Then most likely its the clutches.
Bring it to a shop and get it inspected.

Take it to a reputable, well-known shop that specializes in transmissions.

Yeah, sounds like a worn clutch-pack/band. Only way to know and get it fixed is to have a competent mechanic or transmission specialist check it out.

Or you could buy a new/used transmission and swap it in.

Check some of the TCC affiliates in the vendors section. They may have what you need or know where to get one. Just get the same transmission you have now, though depending on what is wrong, it may cost less to have yours repaired.

Again, best bet, have it checked out by a professional.

I'm in the same situation as well. I have 2001 acura 1.7 el and error code P0740 and my tranny slip too. Spoke to a few people and they told me i need a new tranny..

I called one place and they told me $1800 rebuild my old tranny and upgrade the torque converter. One year warranty or 20000 km

I emailed AUTODOM and they told me $1200.00 plus tax installed. One year Parts and Labor warranty.

or

You can buy the Overhaul Kit and get someone to rebuild it for you. It depends how long you intend to keep this car.
