Hi all,
Question? I just changed the engine in my 2000 civic Lx 1.6. When I put everything back in, I knew I had to top up the tranny (Honda manual fluid) I ran a tube down to the filler hole and after half a litre it starting coming out the hole. At this point I figure it's full "thought there was more on the floor than half a litre when I pulled the axles out" anyway when I started the car the tranny was whining pretty good:canada. I thought damn maybe the throw out bearing, but I checked it before putting it back together. I think the throw out bearing can be eliminated because when I depress the clutch pedal all the way to the floor the noise goes away. Is there a different way of filling the tranny? Maybe It needs to be running when I fill it?
any help would be great.

you should first have drained the trans completely before pulling the axles, but that's sorta beside the point. Your trans should have ~1.8L of fluid in it, you probably poured fluid in faster then it can get into the trans so it will flow back out.

For the amount of work involved I suggest changing the throw out bearing every time you have the trans/motor separated. Which, I'm pretty sure IIRC that the noise in a bad throw out bearing will go away as soon as the pedal is depressed. The pilot bearing will continue regardless of clutch, unless your in gear, then when the flywheel and input shaft are turning together the noise will go away because that bearing is no longer moving. While moving the noise going away when you completely press the clutch, is usually the input shaft bearing.

Thank you for the information Ol Dusty, So I guess my next question would be, If I take the motor and tranny back out to fix the input shaft bearing, can I replace it myself or do I need a tranny shop to press a new one in?

Did you use the correct fluid? The wrong fluid can result in odd noises sometimes.
