Part Number for shifter rebuild kit
What was the part number for the shifter rebuild kit? for a 96-00 civic manual transmission? Also the part diagram?

Number 7 is the white colour plastic seat, that's where the ball of the shifter sits in; I am not sure which part you are looking to rebuilt. Hopefully the link can be of some help. |
Thanks, for the link, theres alot of play in the shifter ( when I am in gear, the shifter moves back and forth / side to side as if it is in neutral) , and when off the accelerator on the highway, there is a buzzing noise coming from the shifter, I am planning to replace #4, 11 and 23 with some shifter rebuild kit DumbasSi was talking about, and also get some ES shifter bushings.
Wicked, i have the same problem and I was looking for this before. I have a buzzing noise to but thats because of the different shift knob i put so the shift boot rattles cause of the plastic piece on the top of the boot to the steel shifter.
In that case, all you need is #16 (made by ES of course) and that will solve your "loose shifter" problem. Of course, replace others as you see fit.

There a rebuild kit available from honda for all civics with a shifter linkage. the Honda part number is: 06542-SH3-010.

wow, this thing costs like $50 bucks now, im surprised option doesnt carry the ES bushings
attempting to put this in tomorrow...any precautions?

how do i get to parts 23, 11, 4, 5? do i remove the console inside the car? or is it all underneath? |
Underneath. You have to totally disconnect the shifter from the linkage. Remove #25 bolts to drop the linkage from the underside of the car, then remove # 24 and #18 to get the shifter out. Parts #4 and % are plastic if I remember correctly, so be carefull wiht the new ones. Its very straight forward once you get the shifter out.
I have the ES Bushings and my shifter is still wobbly it pisses the **** out of me... What do i need to make it nice and stiff... Cuz its like im always in neutral...
replace the collar and the bushings around it ( parts 11,23,4,5) cause most of the time the play comes from inside there... and if that doesnt work that new shifter
i have gotten off all the parts except 18..it seems to be stuck... is there a bolt attached to it from the inside of the car?and when ive gottan off...( Remove #25 bolts to drop the linkage from the underside of the car, then remove # 24 and #18 to get the shifter out) the shifter will be able to come out from the underneath i suppose..?
18 is the PITA of the whole thing. Those small bolts have square heads on the top there are a huge pain to get undone.
What about #25? Those 2 bolts are really the only 2 holding the entire shifter up onto the car. Use this. Its for a TWM short shifter, but their is a PDF Installation manual at the bottom of the page you can download. http://www.twmperformance.com/shorts...rtshifters.htm |
thanks alot DumbasSi... the part in teh shifter rebuild kit...those small pieces, 23, 11, 4 ,5 are all in the ball part.. so it seems according to the picture that 18 and 25 dnt need to be taken out..although i took out 25.. picture #5 on pg 2/9 in that pdf..the blue part..that is where part #23/11/4/5 are , arnet they? cause thats where i found the identical one in my shifter... the one i took off however was missing part 5 prolly cause it was plastic and wore down with salt and whatever over the yrs... so just looking for confirmation that this was the correct place to find these part #'s
The parts included in the rebuild kit are all located in the bottom of the shifter below the ball. You dont really need to remove everything, but I did. I also replaced 16 and 14 with the ES bushings.
yea i replaced those last summer i believe.. i hope this fixes the sloppiness...thanks...
shifts like buttah ...thanks all
Good job. Did you do the fluid too?
no it was pretty clean... i took it to a shop to get timing belt and stuff changed and they check that too..i took off the heat shield thing to make it easier to get to the shifter...is it better to leave it off or put it back on?
