Which one?

alright so i gotta b18b1 to put in my eg

what's better?

ls or b16 gearbox?

I am probably never going to race on a track, but would prefer to have some power in car as i like gunning it on the highway and empty road. Also, gas mileage means a lot too, I absolutely do not want the car to feel lazy, and i heard that is what the ls gearbox will do

You won't be able to have the best of both worlds...

The B16 is short geared, and the "LS" has long gears. I would personally have the B16 1st-4th gears and swap in the 5th gear so you can still maintain gas mileage while on the highway. Since you have the transmission opened up, might as well drop an LSD into it as well. Expensive but do it right the first time.

i have a b16 trans on the b20 and i couldnt be happier. Though you do rev kind of high on the hwy, you get used to it. The b16 trans causes a lot better acceleration.

I have had the LS motor and tranny combo, and also have had a Type R motor and trans swap and honestly didn't feel as if the LS tranny was that slug-ish... Def. more friendly on the hwy and since the LS doesn't run up into the crazy RPM's and yet has good tq. #'s the LS tranny still feels pretty good and can usally be had for a cheaper price, and alot of times have less grinds due to less ricer shifts then on the "higher sought after tranny's" haha!

just as fastblackac said 1-4 b16 and 5th LS but no lsd because your not even gonna track it or anything and it will be a waste of your money IMO.

^^Thats silly. LSD is always good, corners a lot better, launches a lot better. Why not?

Thats like saying why swap a non-vtec single cam for a b-series. You wont track it. You do it to enjoy the drive whether that is on the road or on the track. If you can get your hands on LSD trans for a reasonable price and its within your budget, most DEFINITELY do it.

I'd have to agree. LSD is a nice feature for both daily driving and tracking.

x2 LSD'd tranny's are great! I LOVED my type R trans! But usally trying to find them for a low cost pretty much doesn't happen, but if you have the funds they are much better!

*** BTW: Here is an interesting and easy website to get a good visual comparsion of just about any new-ish honda/acura tranny (you can even see how final ratios and gear speeds would differ with your own tire sizes

I loved my B18C5 w/ S80 Transmission. A lot of fun to drive in the winter! LSD will get you out of a lot of trouble, but can also get you into worse trouble. I've pulled myself on to a lot of snow drifts I didn't want to shovel.

Either way, +4 LSD, and use the B16 tranny.
