What kind of car? Honda, Corvette, Bimmer?

355 is pretty high, so it is easily possible the syncros are worn.

its the blocker ring in your second to third synchroniser they wear out over time and cannot mesh the two speeds together before the dogteeth try and slip over to that gear thats the grinding your hearing. Trany rebuilds and parts are expensive you probably can find a used trany for cheaper then just rebuilding that synchro asuming you have a older civic.

I had the same problem. Instead of rebuilding it, I got another one from tigerjapanese for 200. No problems since.

I heard the GM syncromesh fluid helps too. You can buy it at GM dealerships.

I had the same problem on my old motor before and i also put in the GM Syncromesh and the problem went away. 1 bottle cost $10 and its 1 quart in a bottle. Have you ever changed your tranny fluid since youve owned that car?

My 98 Civic Si had a serious problem shifting from 2-3. I dont mean high rpm quck shifts either, but normal slow shifts it would grind. The car was still new, so Honda replaced the syncro set under warranty. I started using the GM Syncromesh friction modified (make sure you get the fm kind) after one of the Honda Techs recommended it. Shifted perfect afterwords.

Even in my new Si I use Amsoil MTF.

With the amount of k's your car has, a simple MTF change might not help. But it probably wouldnt hurt either. When was the last time it was changed? I think Honda recomends every 50,000k's or so.

Fill hole is top left, drain is bottom right. Takes about 2 quarts. Use a funnel and a long tube and fill from above. I'll see if I can find my old DIY.

When you fill it, you know its full when it starts to leak out of the fill hole. nThere is no dip stick like the oil.
