Gear shift lever (in car) for manual transmission

Hey, how's everyone?

I own a 1998 Civic LX 4 door, with manual, D16 motor.

Recently I noticed that the gear shift lever has about an inch of play in it. What I mean by this is that even when the lever is slotted into a gear and the gear is engaged, you can still move the lever side to side with an inch of motion (play).

Can anyone help me out here? It hasn't affected the shifting of gears, but it is really annoying to me. I checked to see that the bottom bolt mounting the lever to the shift linkage rod is tight, and it is. Any suggestions?

What you need is a shifter bushing kit. they sell them at performance improvements for under 20$ as i recall.
easy to replace as long as no bolts snap on you.

yeah the shifter bushings are probably shot...I recently changed my shifter to a short shifter. If you want the ones that came out of my car you can have them...I think they still in good condition.
