Yes it may cause a weird noise, but I'd really have to hear this noise to determine what's the cause.

It is an expensive fix, because the transmission has to be removed as well as the clutch pack should be replaced. So usually it's around $500-$800 depending on what exactly you do.

I'd be more than glad to personally check your car out myself if you'd like to get an experts opinion.

$500-$800! Wow i did not know that. I have the same issue, I thought it just had something to do with the clutch...that really sucks.

Just curious, but why exactly would you have to replace the transmission in order to change a release bearing?

Unless by replace, you really mean take the transmission out of the car than re-install it after a new release bearing is installed.

clutch release bearing is not that expensive. Its only the job thats expensive cuz you have to take down the tranny and inspect it from there. So, therefore you might have to change everything or not depending on the damage.

Whoops sorry!

I meant you have to replace the clutch kit, and the transmission has to be dropped. There is no need to replace the transmission.

Typo on my part.

Where is the release bearing? I thought he ment a throw bearing. Is the bearing in question in the 2nd half of the case (case that's furthest from the block)?

The throughout bearing is commonly called the Release bearing.

What happens if you don't change it? Is there a chance that your clutch will not engage at all?

seems like a few of us are looking at changing our clutches... Maybe someone can see if we can setup a group buy. Or even a mechanic that will give us a group rate for labor

Where do you find these photos? I need one of the internal gearbox of a regular 97 civic manual tranny.
