Clutch Problem! Need Help Please!

Hey Everyone,

I have a 92 hatch and just recently the clutch started acting up. I have to press it all the way to the floor before it disengages and the pedal feels really soft/loose and when I put it in gear I barely have to lift the pedal and it engages. When I press the pedal and release it all the way it stops half way for a second then releases all the way like it's catching on something. It was fine when I went out last night and when I got back to the car to come home (about 4-5 hours later) it started doing all of this. I really need some help with this because I dont want to rack up a huge bill at the garage if I dont have to. If anyone can help me out please let me know! Maybe a frayed clutch cable??? I dont know.

Thanks in advance,
Jamie

How do I tell if it is a cable or hydro tranny? and where would I look for the associated parts? If it was cable where would the cable go into the tranny and if it was hydro where is the slave cylinder mounted? Please help!

Thanks,
Jamie

i found this on the internet

that thing there above the 2 bolts u have to take off is the slave cylinder...brake fluid passes through it to push the fork on and off the pressure plate i think; someone correct me if im wrong or give ur better explanation ahaha

If your car is a 92 it has a Hydro tranny. Anything under that would have a cable tranny.
It sounds like your clutch is going.....Best bet is to call around for Exedy stage 1 or something similar.....or try looking on the computer to find a better price.

Thanks for all the advice guys! The reason I was asking about the hydro cable question was because the engine that is in my car is a D16A6 crx si engine but I'm not sure about the tranny.....the stock D16A6 tranny is cable but I'm not sure what tranny is on my car...so if there is no slave cylinder in the front of the engine than it is cable? what was that about a clutch fluid resevoir?

Thanks,
Jamie

someone might be able to explain it better than me

civicEJ1 23-Dec-2008 10:03 AM

if u have a cable tranny u dont have the resvoir, so just change the clutch

u cant really...fix a clutch u have to change it so just do it

exedy stage 1 and ur happy i got one for like 100 bucks

Thanks civicEJ1! I appreciate the help...hopefully that "someone" will post something! Cause I could really use the help! haha

I know but I'm pretty sure my clutch is fine because if my clutch was gone wouldn't it be slipping out of gears and not disengaging when my foot is off the pedal? Because my car is doing the opposite... it is disengaging very close to the bottom travel of my clutch pedal and there is no slippage at all, it's rock solid when it's in gear. A couple of the guys at work I talked to said it could be a stretched or frayed clutch cable (if its a cable clutch) or my slave cylinder is shot (if it's hydro).....I dunno

yea itd be a problem with the tranny if it was slipping out of gears no? but ur right if it was the clutch it would be spinning when u accelerate...atleast im pretty sure...ahaha but i hope that "someone" comes through too ahaha dont worry everyones at work im sure ull get the most useful information this evening

civicEJ1 23-Dec-2008 10:15 AM

first thing though find out what kind of motor u have so people can help diagnose the problem.

jamie1985 23-Dec-2008 10:24 AM

Thanks civicEJ1.....my engine is a D16A6 from a crx si....I'm just not sure about the tranny though....can a hydro tranny even be put on my motor? Cause the stock one is cable.

civicEJ1 23-Dec-2008 10:29 AM

i think u can use a hydraulic tranny because people use that block to make a mini me swap soooo....i dont noe im only speculating

check ot see if u have a second resevoir on the driver side behind the engine if hteres a resevoir there than its a hydraulic tranny or check to see if theres a slave cylinder on the front but if theres a resevoir make sure the fluid is up cuzz itll do the EXACT same thing u were say if its low, the engage point is very low to the floor.

jamie1985 23-Dec-2008 10:43 AM

Well my car is a minime swap....D16A6 bottom block with a D16Z6 vtec head. Well I have a resevoir on my master brake cylinder mounted to my firewall and I do have another smaller resevoir mounted in the corner of the engine compartment by the master brake cylinder...is that my hydro clutch resevoir? cause on the cap is says to use DOT4 brake fluid....does the hydro clutch take brake fluid too?
Thanks,
Jamie
