3rd gear

^^there's your problem. why did you use motor oil in your honda transmission? maybe I'm wrong here but honda recomends honda MTF, I've heard of the GM synchro mesh and from what I know about it, sure sounds like a solid idea. I hope you didn't ruin your tranny but if I were you i'd put the proper fliud in now.
an oh yeah, one other often over looked thing when it comes to tranny grinds, did you swap in a short shifter? without a better slave and adapted driving style they throw off shift timming and then you develope a grind into gears that you migh shift hard into, like i don't know say maybe 3rd on the highway.

honda recommends to use either 10w30 or honda manual transmission fluid. Same thing with Acura Vigors and older Integra's but im going to try the AC Delco fluid

u can use 1030 in ur tranny, but it has to be synthetic, but honda does reccomend HONDA MTF.
and it does make a big difference using the right fluid vs regular ENGINE oil.
but i had a 2nd to 3rd gear grind also, didnt think changing the fluid to the gm synchromesh would help so much...and i jhave a short shifter, no grinds!
hope it goes away bro

Just my 2 cents did a fluid change on my buddy's 92 si and used 10w30 synthetic, and it was grinding like no tommorw. Read up on it and then re did wuth castrol 10w30 and not grinds nothing. And it has been 3 years.
Just my 2 cents, and i just did it on my 98 civic and i used 10w30 as well.

Motor oil can be used in a Honda transmission in an emergency. I had Royal Purple 5w30 full synthetic in my tranny for a few days and it made it grind like crazy. I switched to GM Synchromesh Friction Modified and the shifts became smoother and all the grinds went away. I've since had it in my transmission for about 25k.
On a side note, everyone I know who has gone to buy it always comes back from the GM dealership with the same story:
"Do you guys have synchromesh?"
"Is it for a Honda?"
"Ya, how did you know?"
"You Honda guys are the only ones who buy this stuff!"
