Insurance Question?

K, well those of you who know me, know that i put my car on fire and theft for the months while i'm at school because i don't want to pay 400 a month in insurance however, this is a little problem i had and now i have some ideas and i want to see what you guys think. I called the company 4 days before the end of september telling them that i wanted to put it on fire and theft as of 12:00 am oct 1st, because i'm going away to university. Unfortunatley they forgot to mention that I was supposed to give them atleast 10 business days notice before i change my policy because the money will still be withdrawn from my account, so then on the 30th of september the money was taken, when i asked for the cash back they'd only give me what i don't owe or something because it's their policy to keep the money if i've over paid the monthly fee to pay up the rest of the six months... so basically i have the next 5 months or whatever paid up on fire and theft.... now i'm wondering i have the option to drive my car for december and only pay the difference like $200 for insurance for the month, do you guys think it would be worth it to drive it for one month? or should i just suffer through not having a car and being home 3 1/2 weeks? should i just keep the money and save up for mods? i know most people won't care but i'm just curious to see what other people would do....

yes you can pay for just the difference between the comprehensive coverage and the full coverage for the time you want without a penalty. the monthly payments may not work out exactly but you only need pay the daily rate. Who are you insured with, just out of curiosity?

oh, and i'm with state farm.... the best scam artists ever, but what can you do, i dunno about cheaper insurance everything else doesn't seem to work out too well, plus i'm not driving too often right now and i heard that some cheaper companies give you a horrible time if you're ever trying to make a claim.... i don't need extra stress right now, i might look into changing companies in the spring when i'll drive for the year...

and you're right staying home for 3 1/2 weeks will kill me! lol

I know the only reason you want your car out is so you can go to the meets. so pm people . they will take you ..

Personally I would save up the money ...

yup all u have to do is call ur ins co up - tell them you want to put road coverages back on your car - then when you dont want it you call them up and tell them to drop all coverages except comprehensive - there is no penalty for this so all you will end up paying is the difference between the two coverages for the number of days you had it.

so, picking some numbers at random - say your annual premium for full coverage is $3000 and comp alone is $300. the difference is $2700 (+ 2%tax) x 21 days / 365 days = $158.45 EXTRA over the cost if you just left the comp on over the holidays.

good luck

btw try kanetix.com for some quotes in the spring
