Swap? I think I want to avoid hassles...
Last Friday night, I was at the West End meet. We were talking about mods on car and swap and whatnot. One point got to me is when the car gets into accident or some unfortunate events happened to it, if they find out that your motor isn't original, you are in big doodoo.
I know what most people say, "don't tell insurance anything". But there is always a chance of your car getting into a minor or major accident, and bring pullover by police for inspection.
At one point, I thought about swap. After that, I then think about just keep whatever I have and just build on it. Maybe it is a waste for some folks to build a D series but it is better to play safe than be sorry later.
Rice Burner brought up a good point ---> No matter how fast you are, there is always someone else faster. How much HP is enough? 97? 106? 127? 140? 160? or 185?
I think as I get myself more into the scene of car tuning and whatnot, the more I realize that power isn't everything. Some people look for power so they can set a record breaking speed, some mod to promote their business, some build so they can smoke the car that is parked next to it at a red light, some just build for fun and track around.
Am I really ready for a faster motor? Definitely not now. Maybe after 5 years? I am not sure either.
It is fun to think about all this stuff while you are stuck in the traffic.

good point Nova
Im in the same boat as you.
Although I would love to go fast, and feel the rush right now its not top priority. I have other things I rather save up for (house) that are more important.
Its whatever floats your boat. There no good/bad way to go around modding your car, it should be for personal enjoymant and for the sake of loving the little things you do to your ride to make it your own.

The works sam (jooksingkid) said to me one time are so very true and I really think his advice was great.
Basically he mentioned that the best mods are not the most expensive, but sometimes the little things you do to your car. Instead of throwing a bunch of money into your car all at once you should do it up and make sure to enjoy each mod to the fullest before going to the next so you get a good feel for what your doing to your car.
Good advice to live by. Tweak it, and enjoy it to the max to get the most enjoyment out of a mod before you go on to the next big thing.

i like to floss my slow car around ... some people tell me the amount of money i spent on looks, could have got me a nice engine and turbo with it ... but i keep telling them it's about personal perference ... besides my car is all about show and if i go faster i'm afraid all the fiberglass will crack ... plus why make a civic go faster?

ill have to say a swap in your car doesnt mean you want to or have to race. me personally i like to be in front of every car on the road because there are so many stupid drivers out there.
and with a swap you can move quickly a head especial those god dame big suv that is about to block the hole street every body knows what i mean with the suv thing they dont have much respect for the smaller cars on the road! i say i have a j-spec B16 and i love it for daily driving. it was by far the best mod i did to my car. i feel the difference every time i drive my wifes gs teg dame that car is slow lol.

I do agree on enjoy your current mod and then move onto the next one, as oppose to do a lot of things at once.
I had my M3 mirrors for nearly 2 years and that was my sorta first "mod". Then I got tower bar. 2 months later, a rear low tie bar. And 6 months later, a pair of seats and jumped on an used spoon mirror deal (it was too good to pass).
I am basically doing 1 major mod per year. That will give me enough time to study it and make good use of it until I do something else later. But engine will be the last piece I touch.

shlammed: you bring up a good point and its true, but here's the dilemna I"m in.
I have done a swap into my car, now do I tell my insurance company about my swap and risk them cancelling my insurance (like they pretty much do anyways for dumb reasons) because it will somehow make me a street racer?
Or do I keep quiet and hope nothing goes wrong?
I would personally have no problem paying an extra $10-20/month if I could stay insured cause of my swapped engine, but with insurance companies cancelling people cause of mods, is it worth the risk?
BTW- Anyone know of any insurance companies that would take people with mods?

Only Facility Insurance will insure high risk people, but I am not sure if Mod will be considered as high risk. Ask Insuranceman.
Bottom line is, I don't think a different engine will only net you 10 to 20 bucks a month.
Because why would you swap? If your engine blew, then just put in the same one, there is no need for a more powerful one right?
That's the mentality of insurance company. Beacuse anything that "increases HP" is considered bad.

is baby gonna cry?
look, whatever you do, it's on you
even if my insurance refused to insure me, I'd still keep my car and not drive it. I don't give a ****... I love my car and even if it's a museum peice, I'd still enjoy it.

When I have the money, I'm going to swap my motor out. My motor is on its lasts leg, so if I go ahead and replace it with another motor, that's I would tell the police if they ever inspected my car.
Is there a law against swapping motors? Here in Canada we don't have to our cars BAR certified.
My biggest concern would be getting into an accident and having to write off your car after you spent $4,000 on a motor.
If you get into a car accident and you don't have the original motor what happens? Will they not cover you at all? How would the insurance company know that the motor isn't stock?
