Speeding ticket in the U.S,what now?

Hey guys,
I just got a speeding ticket in the U.S. I was going 91 mph in a 65 mph. My speedometer is in kilometers so I'm still trying to figure out exactly how much over I was in kilometers. Anyways, does anyone know if this ticket is gonna affect my driving record here in Ontario? Is my insurance company gonna find out?

I would appreciate any info.

:dito:
Some states have agreements with us Northern folk.
The first thing to do is pay the damn ticket and hope that you Ins comp doesn't find out.

146km/hr in a 104km/hr zone (<--- if that exists...ha).

So you were basically doing 40 over in another country and got booked for it...nice one.

Whether or not your insurance company hears about it depends on which state you were in. If it's Michigan, Massachusetts, or New York, then it will get back to them through the province. Those are the only 3 that I know of but I'm sure there are others (I wouldn' be surprised if Florida had an agreement, too).

I think they can get you next time you cross the border if they check your plates or drivers licence, correct me if I am wrong. Or nothing may happen...my buddy got a big parking ticket in Canada when he had American plates and never ended up paying, he never received anything. So, I say wait until you are sent something.

in some of the southern states they make you pay on the spot.
i was laughing my ass off when my buddy got one!!!!

i remember in driving school, my instructor said that your insurance will find out, he said it still went on your record even if you were in the USA

OMFG you are so lucky!!! im so surprised they didnt take your car to the impound!! if you go over a certain speed they impound it, and you were 40 mph over!!!

Maestro 05-Aug-2004 12:58 AM

Is that what they do down there, that's brutal seeing the Towers scratch the grap out of your car. How fast must u go to have your car impounded? And what happens next?

spracingsports 05-Aug-2004 05:23 AM

i think its like if you are caught speeding and you were over 95, but you were doing 40 over the limit..... i did 11 over and my ticket is $141.00.... what was yours. like a grand???

i knew someone that got a speeding ticket in New York State..
He didn't pay it, when he went to renew his liscence they suspended it.

Maestro 06-Aug-2004 11:01 AM

How do I pay for it if they never sent me a fine? Just a ticket on it's own.

Gunmetalef 02-Sep-2004 01:00 PM

some states you dont have to pay if you don't go back to the state.. my dad got a ticket for doing... 70mph in a 50 mph zone and sum guy in my hotel explained that you don't have ot pay if you don't plan on ever going to that state again.. the ticket was like 300  .. but he still did pay

YES FLORIDA HAS AN AGREEMENT AND WEST VIRGINIA AND THE CAROLINAS MAKE YOU PAY ON THE SPOT OR THEY ARREST YOU! PAY IT CAUSE IT WILL EFFECT YOU LATER.

I got a ticket in West Virginia on my way to spring break for going 30km over. Never paid it. Threw it in the garbage. Haven't heard about it since. Renewed my liscence twice since then. Never planning on going to WV again. I bet they have a warrant out for my arrest... HAHA
