speeding ticket question
Well, My girl got her first speeding ticket today.hehehe. she was doing 75 in a 50 safety zone but the cop reduced it to 60 in a 50. the fine was only 70. I know it isnt much but it is very important that her dad doesnt find out about it so.... i want to fight it b/c the cop wrote the wrong year of the vehicle on the ticket so right away it will get waived ut i dont feel like waiting 8 months for a court date and running the risk of geting a letter being mailed to her house so we'll just pay it. the question now is can it affect anything on insurance at all (she is on her dad's insurance so thats why he cant find out)? there are no points so if we pay it will anything else happen?
Oh ya, the cop told her that he put an R in the code section of the ticket which means that he reduced it and told her "I put and R which means I reduced it so i dont want to see you fighting this in court". Thanks

fight it or insurance goes up.... if he put the wrong year of the vechile down then there is a problem with the ticket... also he probably doesn't want you fighting it because he does want to go to court... also to avoid the letter in the mail go to the court house ticket in hand and get a date... and to be on the safe side check the mail before her father does... just my 2 cents worth...

The officer has 7 days to file the ticket. And because there maybe a discrepancy with the details of the vehicle, he may not file. But after 10 days go and check to see if its on the system. If its not on the system at that time, it means that it hasn't been filed, and you don't pay!
If it is on the system, unfortunately you'll have to pay the $70.
The "R" means that the officer has reduced it on the spot and if you go to court to fight it, it won't be reduced any more. It will stay at $70. So waiting for a court date would be wasting your time.
Don't worry about it coming in the mail...they don't send you anything with regards to speeding tickets in the mail.
Because the ticket was for only 10 over it results in no points, and it'll depend on you insurance company, but 10 over is something that they'll probably just waive, I wouldn't worry about that.
My girlfriend works at the Provincial Offences Court, thats where I got the info. Hope this helps.

Some more info...
Without seeing the ticket, here is the break down
* 60/50 = no Points
* the year of the car on the ticket is in reference to the plates, this is not a means to have the ticket quashed. Sorry.
* She can fight it if she wants, but the only real benefit is to get more time to pay this fine. A notice would be sent home to tell her when her court date is.
* An officer has 7 days form the date of the offence to file ( give to the POA office) a Part 1 ticket, like this speeding ticket. If this were my ticket I would wait 10 days, from the date of offence. Visit a POA office, or email a POA clerk to check if the ticket made it on ICON (their software to check the tickets). Then I would pay the ticket once I had confirmed the filing of the ticket.
* Nothing will be sent home for about 44 days after the offence. If she pays the ticket within 15 days after the offence date nothing will be sent home at all.
* As far as insurance being affected, it is different for each
company. Each one has their own policy and view how to deal with tickets.
My 2 cents *Strongly suggest she tell her parents about the ticket. If she is paying the fine herself and won't be losing any points, lying about it will be the only thing that she could really get in trouble for.*

thanks for the info.. money is not the issue its just the insurance being affected, but i guess its a toss up. the only problem with telling her parents is that she has no excuse for being in that area at that time, so its kind of hard!
