Speeding ticket in NY State

A friend of mine got a speeding ticket in New York State yesterday for 17 mph over. I know that NY shares info with Ontario, but what he was wondering was will he lose points in Ontario for this ticket?

you don't lose points.. i don't even think they send the info over unless you don't pay

Loose points...

What are you guys all talking about...

How can you loose points?

Demerit points are bad... you're not suppose to get any!

You start with ZERO and gain points as you collect offenses... not loose them!

Remember... demerit points are not to be lost... but can only be gained.
Sheesh..

NY State (and many states that are in close proximity) have reciprocity - which means they share information. There is a very good chance your friend will feel the negative affects of this ticket, as if it were written on Ontario soil.

Sorry :(

Sorry :(

that's incorrect..

i got a ticket for doing 90mph in the 60mph zone, $225 USD and no they didn't take any points off here.. threre is no negative effect other than the lost of money

the only thing is that if you don't pay it and travel in the NY/NJ/CT/MA (basically everywhere northeast US) and they stop you again, they have the right to keep you in custody until you pay up..

Let me clear everything up.

THEY WILL NOT SHARE INFO NO MATTER WHAT UNLESS UR A CRIMINAL OR KILLED SUMONE.

YOU DONT HAVE TO PAY THE TICKET BUT THAT MEANS YOU CAN GO BACK OT THAT STATE FOR LIKE 5 YEARS OR SO I THINK UNTIL THEY CLEAR IT.

AND I AM PRETTY SHURE YOU DONT GAIN POINTS YOU ACTUALLY LOOSE THEM. YOU HAVE 13 and then it starts going down depending on how many you loose. I CHECKED MA EMPLOYERS ABSTRUCT AND THATS WAT IT SAYS.

Demerit Points

I'm 99% sure that you start with ZERO points.

sillypuddy 05-Sep-2002 08:53 AM

1. stop yelling
2. you start with zero points and you gain them.. when people say "lose" they mean they lost part of their "quota"
3. if you don't pay and you get caught again in the state.. they WILL detain you until you pay both tickets.. there is no time limit either btw..
