^^^ i don't know if they CAN'T, or just won't.. but i bet you any money that any cop anywhere can pull you over for a criminal violation (as opposed to a civil violation like traffic). so don't get any criminal ideas

but generally if you see a non-OPP on a major highway (not counting Toronto-owned highways like the gardiner, the DVP, allen road, etc), you don't have to worry about going past them at 120.

as for the red light cameras, they don't measure speed or anything. and you can run yellows with them still.. they only take your picture if you ENTER the intersection once it's turned red. in my opinion that's a great way for them to be set, because if you're that late, you should not be going through, *******!

question: has anyone been pulled over for doing 120 on the highway? I do 120 around cops sometimes if everyone else is, but most people slow down around cops..

On my way home on the 401 today I saw an OPP officer merge onto the highway, go straight to the passing lane, drive behind a car that was going maybe 130 (the car didn't slow down), then less than 10 seconds later the cop put his lights on and pulled over the car. Can you get a speeding ticket like that? Or maybe he was pulling him over for another reason, or just to tell him to slow down.
yep, i was doing 93 in a 70 zone (i was in the back of the pack cuz my car so slow lol) and i got pulled over
he said its just bad luck cuz i was the easiest to pull over (but i think its cuz i was the only rice bucket)

you can't just say 400 series.

i've only heard of 401 being the only highway that is governed by the opp as its provincial highway.

but highway 400 after a certain area its barrie police that will pull you over as well.

^^^ not so true... any 400 series runs through cities, meaning if a Peel Cop was jumping on the highway and see's this Car screaming, if its within his jurisdiction and if he wants he will issue u a ticket, my brother worked out of Peel when he started early in his career and he pulled people over as well...

In Hamilton the Cops hide behind light polls....
They must be skinny cops. lol

Btw, I was told once that if a police officer is using a lazer radar, it has to be mounted to something (like a tripod). If they are holding it in their hands, the ticket will not hold up in court.

I know an opp officer that towed a barrie cop off of the 400 series highway because he was out of juristiction and not supposed to be issuing tickets on the highway...

I always wondered about police cars having radar in them. I was once travel in the opposite direction of a cop and he pulled me over for speeding. I tried to argue it, but it seemed it would have done more bad then good. In the end he never gave me a ticket, but It made me wonder if they could really take your speed if accurately if they are moving the opposite direction you are.

FYST is your friend...

as for Radar in cop cars... Don' you guys watch those Police shows with the video from the police cars in England, they show the vehicles speed of the car they are tailingand ussually there is a white overlay indicator on the video to show the cop what car the speed is for.

as for Photo radar it's not allowed in Ontario. Only BC, Alberta and New Brunswick have it. and even then FYST has some tips for getting out of speeding tickets in those provinces.

red light cameras in Ontario can't be used as speeding cameras... and if a cop catches you at a radar trap and doesn't chase you and mails you a ticket you have good grounds to fight the ticket because they can't prove you were the driver of the car at that time. unless they take photos as you pass and of course photo radar is not allowed... so it's a catch 22 and the crown won't be able to prove a case.

I believe one of the things a cop has to prove is that he never lost site of you..... which would be hard to prove if he was going in the opposit direction. Think about it... if he did a u turn he would have to look around first to see if it was safe to do so.... which means he had to take his eys off of you.
