yup
Looks like you've got yourself some trouble.
I would talk to this guy, but you were in St. Clair and Bathurst and this guy had a Benz... was it late model?
Its one of 2 things, you're screwed or you're not.
If he contacts insurance, theres a good chance you're screwed, your witness won't mean sh*t, because he has your information which you "volunteered" to him. Afterall why would you "volunteer" your information to anyone, unless there was some incident.
Give the guy a call and ask him what he wants and mention it around, and get some ideas before you figure out what to do.

Here is my take on things...
A) He wants 500$ cash... he wants this cash so he can spend it on whatever he wants, not on his car. Why would he mess up his own bumper if he wanted disposable money... Not logical unless it was just to prove a point and add a little revenge for hitting him.
B) He is legit and there is some damage to his vehicle which wasn't initially apparent in which case you should step up and let your insurance cover it.
I would do as instructed.. Call him up, ask to see the damage on the vehicle, then get it appraised etc.
If he IS trying to rip you off, make him sweat it out man..
If *I* were a bad guy I would use EVERY delay tactic in the book.
Look at it this way, if you gotta pay you gotta pay, but you can have fun with him along the way.
Consider this your own private showing of hell... You pay 500$ to watch this guy jump through your hoops.
Regards,
OK

quick pay out
There's no doubt in my mind that this guy wants a quick pay out.
You need to dance with him a little to figure this out.
If you want, call him bluff and he probably won't call insurance, but its a gamble.
You could always do the "my cousin's, brother's, uncle can fix that" trick
Good luck

yes
Yes, you would definately be contacted, and more than likely expect your rates to go up if they do.

one more thing, would my insurance notify me if the guy actually called or would they just go ahead without letting me know

ask for an estimate.period...
if he comes up with an estimate and its legit then u are entitled to pay.
I got rear ended and it didnt look like anything(raining and car was dirty) but once i got it cleaned there was visible damage, took it to a body shop got an estimate to repair it(repaint the bumper) and now i gotta notify the person and she better pay.
Ask to see the car and an estimate.

Also if you think about it, wouldn't your cousin's brother also be your cousin as well?

Cousin's brother = your cousin as well, and their uncle may be your dad.
You could just say your cousin's brother's sister's mom's brother.
